Obituary for Evelyn Obbard (Gordeychuk)

Evelyn G. Obbard, 85, of Marietta, Ohio, formerly of Sewickley, died Friday, September 22, 2017, at Brookdale Senior Living. Born July 10, 1932, in Boston, Massachusetts, to Trofim and Mary Potopas Gordeychuk.

She graduated from Finch Junior College and took extensive coursework at Katharine Gibbs College in Boston. She worked at Cambridge Trust in Cambridge, MA, and met and married her first husband Peter K. Sour. After a move to Sewickley, PA, in 1975, she worked at St. Stephen’s Church, and was very active in civic organizations there. In 1981, she married John W. Obbard, formerly of Sewickley, and moved to Winchester, MA, where she worked for the Robbins Library, the office of Dr. Leo Cass, and McLean Hospital. She enjoyed an active life with her husband, an expert on English silver and antiques. Upon his retirement from Raytheon, they moved to Cape Cod, where she volunteered for the local PEO chapter, the Sturgis Library, the West Parish of Barnstable, and enjoyed sailing and traveling with John.

She is survived by her son Peter W. Sour (Beth) of Marietta, OH, and her daughter Alexandra Sour of Cleveland, OH; three grandchildren, Callie and Gwen Sour, and Nicholas Rocco; brother John Udaloy; stepdaughters Rachel and Jeanne Obbard; step grandchild Theo Obbard; and many nieces and nephews.

Evelyn is especially remembered for her welcoming charm, warmth, and graciousness to all who met her, and for her loving devotion to her family.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, November 3, 2017, at the First Congregational Church in Winchester, Massachusetts. Interment of her ashes will take place in Winchester Wildwood Cemetery.
