Pamela Sue Ritchie Hanes, 54, of Marietta, died Tuesday, November 11, 2008, at Marietta Center. She was born March 26, 1954, in Marietta to Bernard A. and Violet Cox Ritchie. She graduated from Marietta High School in 1972. She is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Anne “Beth” Hanes of Marietta; a grandson, Logan Matthew Hanes; a brother, William “Bill” Ritchie (Donna) of Columbus; two sisters, June Voshel (Jeff) of Lowell and Linda Reynolds (Kenny) of Marietta and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her son, Matthew David Hanes. Abiding with Pam’s wishes, she was cremated, and there will be a memorial service at a later date. Robert Paul Potter, 86, formerly of Riverview Drive, Marietta, died at 9:00 a.m. On Sunday, November 9, 2008 at Marietta Center. He was born on May 25, 1922 in Marietta, to George and Agnus Cassidy Potter. He attended St. Mary Catholic High School. Bob was a WWII veteran, serving in the 10th Armored Division of the United States Army. He retired in 1982 from Eramet Power Plant, formerly Union Carbide, as a Pit Operator. Bob was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, the American Legion, Post #64 and enjoyed camping. He is survived by five sons, Robert E. Potter (Fran) of Marietta, Charles G. Potter (Jane ) of Marietta, Mark A. Potter (Evelyn) of Little Hocking, Donald J. Potter (Amy) of Marietta, and James E. Potter (Lou Ann) of Marietta; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and one sister, Gertrude McMurry of North Lima, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Elva Jean Miller Potter, who died on July 17, 2005. They were married on November 9, 1942. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. On Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at St. Mary Catholic Church, with The Rev. John Michael Campbell celebrating. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in East Lawn Memorial Park. Marjorie Lou Rinard Oki, 74, of Marietta, Ohio, died Friday, October 31, 2008, at the Arbors in Marietta. She was born on March 8, 1934 in New Matamoras, Ohio to Harry E. and Ora Edith Knowlton Rinard. Marjorie was a member of the First Baptist Church in Marietta and a past member of the Grace BrethrenChurch in Ashland, where she was a member of the Women’s Circle. She and her husband ring the bells for the Salvation Army in Mansfield and Ashland. She is survived by her husband, Richard Oki, whom she married on January 19, 1963. Her sister, Vaun Billman (Dick) of Ashland also survives. She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 5, 2008, at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home, 408 Front Street, Marietta. Vida P. Carson, 92, of Montgomery Street, Marietta, died Friday, October 24, 2008, at Harmar Place in Marietta. She was born May 23, 1916 in Monroe County to Samuel Dye and Louisa Mae Rosenlieb Carson. She had worked at Haas Insurance Agency for many years. Vida enjoyed life and belonged to several organizations. She was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ; a sixty year member of Marietta Chapter #59, Order of the Eastern Star; Past Matron of the Eastern Star; a fifty year member of the White Shrine #12 and Past Worthy High Priestess of the White Shrine, as well as a fifty year member of a Birthday Club. Vida was a fifty year member of Beta Sigma Phi and a former member of the Betsey Mills Club. She enjoyed playing cards and bingo and liked to cook and bake pies. She loved her family and cherished her many friends. Vida is survived by her sister, Freda Adams of Scio, two nieces, Sharon Lynn Spring (John) of Columbia, SC and Debra Kay Starkey (Steve) of Zanesville; two great nieces, Julia Louise Richardson (Daniel) of La Mirada, CA and Krista Marie Starkey of Zanesville; and two great nephews, Kevin Adam Spring of Akron and Gregory Michael Starkey of Zanesville. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. On Tuesday, October 28, 2008, at the First Congregational Church, with the Rev. Linda Steelman officiating, with burial to follow in Valley Cemetery. Dorothy V. Benson, 91, of Barlow, died Saturday, October 18, 2008, at Marietta Center. She was born December 4, 1916 in Barlow to William and Hazel Skipton Lasure. She was a graduate of Vincent High School and attended Camden Clark Hospital School of Nursing. Dorothy had worked for Dr. Donald Fleming, and retired as postmaster of Barlow Post Office. She was a member of Barlow Presbyterian Church, the Barlow Volunteer Fire Department and the Ladies Auxiliary. She had helped with the organization of Pee Wee Football at Warren Local School District and had served as a member of the Vincent School Board. She was well known for her unselfish love for family, friends, and community. Dorothy is survived by three daughters, Jane Dickson Corbett (David Wittekind) of Marietta, Jo Ann (Gary) VanWey and Donna (Tom) Weinrich, all of Barlow; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Benson of Vincent; six grandchildren, Cynthia McClay, Marcia Roach, J.D. Benson, Brian Benson, Justina Crousser and Jodi VanWey; twelve great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Also survived by her faithful pet, Nancy. She was preceded in death by her parents; her step father, Lewis Martin; her husband, Harry A. Benson; son, Jerry J. Benson; brother, Dewey C. Lasure and his wife, Aldene, and step siblings Joann and Kenneth Martin. Robert Lee Hess Robert Lee Hess, 77, of Muskingum Drive, Marietta, died Friday, October 17, 2008, at Selby General Hospital. He was born August 15, 1931 in Marietta to Elmer C. and Myrtle Mae Washington Hess. He served eleven years in the National Guard. Bob was a pipefitter, working through Local #168, Plumbers and Pipefitters, retiring in 1991. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Loyal Order of Moose, #1823, and enjoyed fishing and camping. Bob is survived by his wife, Kathryn Osborn Hess, they were married on September 25, 1954, also by two sons, Daniel and Steven, and a daughter, Lisa Carpenter, all of Marietta, as well as five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother. Paul A. Daniels, 83, formerly of Eighth St., Marietta, died Tuesday, October 14, 2008, at The Arbors, at Marietta. He was born December 14, 1924 to Arthur C. and Louise R. Daniels. Paul was a very faithful member of St. Mary Catholic Church, where he attended daily mass for as long as he was able. He is survived by a cousin, Anna Rechsteiner. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, to whom he owed everything. They worked, and sacrificed, and cared for Paul, making sure he would have the best life possible. Richard Glenn Knoch, 83, of St. Rt. 821, Whipple, died Sunday, October 12, 2008, at his home. He was born February 27, 1925 in Whipple to Howard and Hulda Zimmer Knoch. Richard was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a carpenter, working through Carpenters Union, Local #356, and had also farmed in the Whipple area. Richard was a member of the Warner United Church of Christ,and had served on the church council. He had served on the Salem-Liberty School Board. Richard was known as a loving and devoted husband, a generous and caring father, grandfather and great grandfather. He is survived by his three daughters, Yvonne Ritchie (Doug) of Devola, Marilyn Wilson (Chip) of Ft. Myers Beach, Florida, and Deb Zimmer of Wise, Virginia; his two sons, Richard N. Knoch (Lynn Morris) of Craig, Montana and Brian Knoch (Rhonda) of Whipple, also fourteen grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death on March 7, 2005 by his wife, Elva Kehl Knoch., they were married on January 20, 1945; also preceded by a great granddaughter. Donald W. Crosby, 72, formerly of Lawton Road, Marietta, died Saturday, October 11, 2008, at Harmar Place. He was born February 11, 1936 in Stoystown, PA to Donald E. and Winifred Donahue Crosby. He was a graduate of the Cathedral Preparatory School in Erie, PA. He had been school board president of Seneca High School in Pennsylvania. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Don had worked at Lakes Electric in Erie, before moving to Marietta in 1977. In Marietta, he had worked at Northwest Electric before retiring from Crescent & Sprague in November of 2000. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post #64, BPO Elks #477, National Electrical Contractors Association, and was a past president of the Marietta Noon Lions Club. Don was an avid golfer and a member of the Marietta Country Club. He is survived by five daughters, Kathleen Bayhurst (Philip) of Waterford, PA, Colleen Crosby of Moravian Falls, NC, Denise Hinton (Daniel) of Marietta, Dianne Eschbaugh (Mark) of Marietta and Sherri Voytek (Michael) of Centerville, Ohio; two sons, Donald B. “Jay” Crosby (Denise) of Marietta and John D. Crosby (Sandra) of Marietta; eleven grandchildren, Jennifer, Philip, Patrick and Elaine Bayhust; Nicholas, Natasha, Jessica, Grace, and Jonathan Crosby; Jordan and Emily Hinton and Zane, William and Gabriel Eschbaugh; four great grandchildren and four brothers and three sisters. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine Mary Eisert Crosby on May 6, 2001. They had been married on May 28, 1960. Also preceded in death by a brother, John Crosby. Rodney Eugene Gaul, 66, of 4 Lewis Pointe Drive, Vincent, Ohio, died Friday, October 10, 2008, at his home. He was born on December 25, 1941, in Sumner, Ohio, to L. Cecil and Barbara Weber Gaul. He retired from Dupont after 42 years, serving the bulk of his career as a Central Maintenance Supervisor. He also served as president of the Dupont Washington Works 25-year Club. Rod was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church. Additionally, Rod was an active member of the community including serving on the Warren Local School Board for 8 years and serving as president of the Barlow-Vincent PTA and as a Cub Scout Master of Barlow Pack 217. He often volunteered his time supporting various youth sports and recreational activities in the Barlow-Vincent community. He was a strong supporter of the Relay for Life in Washington County, an avid fisherman, outdoorsman and basketball player. Rod also held a black belt in the Fugakukai International Aikido Association. He is survived by his wife of almost 45 years, Sharon Moore Gaul , they were married on November 22,1963; his daughter, Sara E. Mills (Brian) of West Chester, Ohio; his sons, Michael R. Gaul (Barbara) of Winchester, Virginia, and Jeremy Gaul (Samantha) of Guysville, Ohio; five grandsons, Jacob and Timothy Gaul, Mitchell and Evan Gaul and Alexander Mills; his mother Barbara Gaul Sargent of Sumner, Ohio; a sister, Loretta Murphy (Edward) of Tuppers Plains, Ohio; a brother, Roger Gaul (Paula) of Sumner; his mother-in-law, Hope Moore of Pomeroy, Ohio, and the godparents of his children, Charles Jeffrey and Joyce Ramsey of Torch, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his father. Dunfee Alexander. June attended Parkersburg High School and was a member of the First United Methodist Church, and a former member of The Letter Carriers Ladies Auxiliary, both in Parkersburg. One son survives, Donald R. (Karen) Kidwiler, II of Whipple, OH; two grandchildren, Sean Kidwiler and Paula (Larin) Hall; two great grandchildren, Sean Alexander Hall and Kandy Kay Kidwiler, as well as several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren. Marilyn Lee Dodd, 73, formerly of Third St., Marietta, died Tuesday, October 7, 2008, at Harmar Place. She was born December 25, 1934 in Steubenville to David McKay and Constance Woodrum Fleming. She was a graduate of St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Huntington, WV. She was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, the D.A.R.,the Colonial Dames and a past member of the Marietta Welfare League. She enjoyed painting and genealogy. Marilyn is survived by her daughter, Sherry McKenzie (Doug) of Marietta; her son, Philip W. Lee of Hilliard and five grandchildren, Abigail and Hannah McKenzie and Mallory, Adam and Erin Lee. She was first married to Franklin D. Lee and in 1979 to Charles Collier Dodd, who preceded her in death in 1991. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 10, 2008, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. Patricia Ann McKenna Erb, 59, of 521 Victoria Ave., Williamstown, died at 8:15 p.m. on Saturday, October 4, 2008, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Parkersburg. She was born in Marietta on March 17, 1949 to Harold and Loleta McGuire McKenna. Patricia was a 1967 graduate of Williamstown High School and had attended WV University for two years. She was a reporter for The Marietta Times from 1978 until 1981 and then did freelance writing for two years. Following her freelance writing, she worked for the City of Williamstown until the present time as a police clerk and dispatcher, the mayor’s administrative assistant, and the municipal court clerk. She enjoyed writing, was a published author and liked to sew, quilt, and collect teady bears and Fenton art glass. She is survived by her husband, Ronald A. Erb, whom she married in November of 1978, two sons, Thomas Patrick Erb (Jennifer) of Columbus, Ohio and Michael Brady Erb (Stacy) of Williamstown; two grandsons, Joshua Dale and Connor Alan Erb; her mother-in-law, Betty V. Erb of Williamstown; her brother-in-law, Steven D. Erb of Williamstown; two sisters-in-law, Linda D. Bayles (Dennis) of Waverly, WV and Lisa D. Stalnaker (Steve) of Daytona Beach, FL. Sallie Jane White, 90, of Glenwood, Marietta, passed away peacefully at Marietta Memorial Hospital Thursday, October 2, 2008, at 4:16 p.m. She was born in Marietta to Pressley Milford and Katharine Jeanette McKim White on May 21, 1918. She was a lifeling resident of Marietta, graduating with honors from Marietta High School in 1937. She was also a graduate of Wellesley College in Wellesley, MA, where she was a Wellesley Scholar, and commissioned in the U.S. Navy during WWII. At one time, Sallie had been employed in the Admissions Office at Marietta College, served on the Welfare League and was treasurer of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, where she was a lifelong member. Sallie is survived by her sister-in-law, Nancy White of Marietta; nieces, Kay (Gilbert) King of West Falmouth, MA, Constance (Richard) Tevebaugh of Woodbridge, CT, Barbara (Richard) Stockton of Summit, NJ, Donn (Daniel) Shull of Rockport, TX and Sandia Sommer of Marietta; nephews, Bill (Maureen) Boian of Orange, CT, Stephen (Lauvon) White of Sierra Vista, AZ, Jonathan (Ingrid) White of Columbus, Richard (Debbie) White of North Wilkesboro, NC, Kim (Tanyga) White of Sugar Land, TX, and David (Anita) White of Marietta, as well as numerous great and great great nieces and nephews. Corinne Beach Wires of the Barlow/Vincent area passed away on Saturday, September 27, 2008, at Heartland of Marietta. She was born August 22, 1921 at Barlow to Ben and Florence Lawton Beach. Corinne attended local schools, graduating from Barlow Vincent Local High School (Warren High School), and Ohio University, Athens, Ohio. After her marriage to Darrell E. Wires, the family moved to a Little Hocking farm where they engaged in dairying. Corinne was an elementary and special reading teacher for 34 years. She loved and understood children, and tried to help each one toward maturity. Her interesting and creative projects always helped children learn and grow. In 1978, Darrell and Corinne moved to Apache Junction, AZ, and were later joined by son, Ben. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Ada, and beloved husband of forty years. Corinne is survived by son, Beach Wires (Susan), of New Jersey; son, Ben Wires, of Arizona; care givers, nephew Paul Beach and wife, Teresa, of Barlow; grandsons, Beach J. (Ellen), Kent (Maggie), and Adam Wires; great nieces, Jodi Beach Hughey and family, Chris Beach Franks and family, Beth Beach, and Summer Heddleston; great nephews, Alex and Tyler Heddleston; sister-in-law, Virginia Wires Louk (Ray); nieces, Kay Wires and Carolyn Wires Stahl (Jerry); nephews, Harold Wires (Cindy), Richard Wires (Tammy), Roger Wires (Debbie), sister-in-law, Roseen Wires Trout; niece Brenda, nephews Bryan Thrasher, Brett Thrasher (Jamie), and Barry Thrasher, plus many great nieces and nephews. Marjorie Ruth Wentz, 83, of St. Rt. 550, Marietta, died Monday, September 22, 2008, in Marietta. She was born May 19, 1925 in Dunham Township to Addison Kingsbury and Letha Wilhelm Reynolds, and was the youngest of eight children. She graduated from Vincent High School in 1942, and on August 6th. of that year married her surviving spouse, John David Wentz . They recently celebrated their 66th. anniversary. She was a retiree of BF Goodrich and a member of the Barlow-Vincent Church of Christ. Marjorie’s hobbies included sewing, crocheting and cross-stitch, but her favorite times were those spent with her family and especially caring for her grandchildren. Along with her husband, John, she is survived by her daughter, M. Marie McGraw (Joe) of Vincent; two sons, David (Kathy) and Charles (Beverly), both of Marietta; seven grandchildren, two step grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters. Kathryn Marie Corcoran passed away September 7, 2008, in Marietta, Ohio. Kathryn “Kay” was born in Troy, NY September 26, 1913 to Cecelia Williamsen and Hans Sorensen, both of whom were born in Denmark. She was raised in Watertown, CT. Kay married Charles Joseph Corcoran, Jr. in Chicago, IL on April 15, 1939, the couple later living in Maryland, Florida and Virginia. From 1951 to 1961, Kay served as secretary/treasurer of Jane Marshall Dillon’s Junior Equitation School, in Virginia. Later in 1961, she was recruited by Elizabeth Campbell to assist in the founding of Washington’s public TV station, WETA. She continued working for WETA for the next twenty years, ending her career as the Assistant Director of Information. She is survived by her sister, Eleanor Sweet, of Kingston, NY; sons, Tom Corcoran (Pat) of Woodbridge, VA and Pete Corcoran (Susan) of Marietta, OH; daughter, Judy Luebke (Larry) of Collbran, CO; seven grandchildren and eight nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1985, as well as a sister, Edith Curtis, and a brother, Carl Sorensen. He had worked at Shelly & Sands until 1963, and then was self-employed as a barber in Belpre for sixteen years. He was an active member of the Fairview Heights Chapel, being a special buddy to the pastor, and singing in the choir. He was the leader of the Blue Knob Express band and was also in The Tunnel Hill Band. He had a special ministry, playing music at nursing homes as The Lighthouse. Herman is survived by his wife, Phyllis Hahn Edgell, they were married on April 28, 1953; three sons, Tim Edgell (Cindy) of Macksburg, Sam Edgell (Sharon) of Little Hocking and Mark Edgell (June) of Marietta and a daughter, Mary Busch of Marietta; grandchildren, T.J. She was a graduate of Parkersburg High School and had attended both Mountain State and Washington State community colleges. She had worked for 33 years at AT & T, now Bell Atlantic, retiring in 1985, as a plant assigner. She then worked as a newspaper carrier for the Marietta Times until 1991. She was a member of Twin Rivers Baptist Church and the Telephone Pioneers. She was a champion pie maker and enjoyed cooking, children, animals, gardening, skiing, golf, bowling, and singing in the church choir. She is survived by her husband, Donald L. A. Richard Stoltenberg, 85, of 106 Chippewa Dr. B-1 died peacefully at Marietta Memorial Hospital on Friday, August 29, 2008. Dick was born January 20, 1923 in the family home in Chicago, IL, the second of three sons and a daughter of Raymond W. and Hildur I. Peterson Stoltenberg. He was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Marietta. Dick was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Lichthardt Stoltenberg. Dick and Irene were married March 11, 1945 and were the parents of three children, all surviving: sons David W. Stoltenberg of Seattle, WA and Richard A. Stoltenberg of Phoenix, AZ and daughter Amy Stoltenberg Tulip, of Andover, MA and two granddaughters, Jyl and Erica Stoltenberg, of Seattle, WA and Austin, TX respectively. In addition, he is survived by a sister, Mary J. Coppock. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Raymond and William. Dick was a graduate of Purdue University with a degree in chemical engineering and a veteran of the U. S. Navy, having served in WWII. He was a director of the local Salvation Army, and a member of the Kiwanis Club of Marietta, American Legion post 64 and Elks Lodge 477. He also served as an official at local crew races and regattas from 1970 to 1985. He joined Du Pont in 1945 at Orange, TX and retired from the Washington Works plant in 1985. At his request, Dick’s body was donated to the Ohio State University College of Medicine. Memorial contributions should be made to the Ohio Nature Conservancy, 1504 W. Scott Alan Clay, 51, of Marietta and Walker, WV, died at 1:45 a.m. On Friday, August 15, 2008 at The Ohio State University Hospital in Columbus. He died due to complications of pneumonia and leukemia. He was born on March 3, 1957, in Marietta, a son of William W. Clay and Jo Callander-Murphy. Scott graduated from Warren High School in 1974. He attended Washington State Community College for two years and received two Associates Degrees in Applied Science and Industrial/Design Drafting. In 1995 he attended Rhinehart Taxidermy School in Wisconsin, and thereafter opened his own taxidermy studio in Pinehurst, closing in 2004. He was employed for the last three years by Boy Scouts of America, Kootaga Council as Camp Ranger. He served two years as Camp Ranger at Camp Arrowhead in Huntington, WV. Scott worked formerly at Sir speedy Printing, Union Carbide Metals in Marietta, and had worked for 16 years at Johns Manville in WV, until the plant closed. He was a member of Marietta Elks Lodge #477, Nendawen Lodge #618 and the National Eagle Scout Association. He received his Eagle Scout on March 30, 1974, his award for Order of the Arrow in the late 1960’s and Vigil in 1974. Scott was very active in his daughter’s basketball career. He coached her AAU team from 1998 to 2002 and was a big fan during her high school playing at Warren High School. He traveled all four years with his family to see Ashley play at Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, AL. Scott was also very active in his son’s crafting business where they worked together collecting "junk" and turning it into treasures. He loved fishing and exploring the outdoors and was very involved in helping Charlie’s Blockbuster store build fixtures and encouraged him to hit his sales goals. He is survived by his wife, Tammy Sue Hutchinson Clay, whom he married on October 20, 1979; son, Charlie and daughter Ashley Clay; mother, Jo C. Murphy, all of Marietta; and his pets, Milton, Jules, Sammy and Moe. He was preceded in death by his father; step-father, George W. Murphy; grandparents, Harry and Clara Callander, and Paul and Mary Clay; and his favorite pet and friend, Brandy. Visitation will be on Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. The Marietta Elks Lodge, #477 will conduct a memorial service at 7:00 p.m. Abiding with Scott’s wishes, no formal funeral will be planned. Following Tuesday’s visitation, his body is to be cremated. Tony Eugene Wittekind, 38, of Strecker Lane, Marietta, died Wednesday, August 13, 2008, at his residence. He was born December 24, 1969 in Ft. Eustis, VA to Bruce and Patricia “Pat” Snider Wittekind. He had received an associate degree in Mechanical Engineering from Washington State Community College. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Panama Conflict. He was a chemical operator and worked in drafting at Cytec. He was on the board of the Marietta Soccer League, where he was assistant coach for the Marietta Blaze and coach of the Marietta Chaos soccer team. He was an active hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed carpentry, making a set for the Marietta Premiere Show Choir. In addition to his parents of Waterford, Tony is survived by his wife, Gloria Gomez Wittekind, a whom he married on October 5, 1991; his two daughters, Sabrina and Mailina and his son, Anthony, all of the home; his brother, Tim Wittekind of Watertown, his sister, Myla Thomas (Doug) of Reno; his paternal grandparents, Don and Arlene Wittekind of Marietta; his maternal grandmother, Margaret Snider of Waterford and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Rondell Snider. Funeral Liturgy, with Mass, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 19, 2008, at St. Mary Catholic Church, with the Rev. Heidi Jane Petrella Bett, 70, of Chippewa Drive, Marietta, died at 7:50 a.m. on Tuesday, August 12, 2008, at her residence. She was born in Steubenville, Ohio on November 8, 1937 to William and Jennie Margaret Darios Petrella. Heidi received her nursing degree in 1958 from Good Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing in Zanesville. She was a Registered Nurse for 40 years, for Marietta Memorial Hospital and Community Action Family Health Service. Heidi was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and The Red Hatters and enjoyed traveling, music, reading and was deeply committed to her family. She is survived by one son, Mark Louis Bett (Stephanie) of Dublin, Ohio; three daughters, Kimberly Ann Modie (James) of Westerville, Ohio, Lou-Ann Bett of Larchmont, NY, and Tina Marie Trombley (Mark) of Westerville; five grandchildren, Wesley A. Wiblin, Christopher Modie, Samantha and Alexandra Flamenbaum and Taylor Trombley; one brother, Craig Petrella (Anita) of Steubenville; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis B. “Lou” Bett on February 27, 1998, and they were married on August 16, 1958. Her parents, infant son, Thomas Matthew Bett and sister, Beverly J. Barbara Ann Heckler Morbitzer, 70, of Second Street, Marietta, died at 8:10 p.m. on Friday, August 8, 2008 at Marietta Memorial Hospital. She was born on July 27, 1938 in Marietta to Charles Davis and Georgia Hendershot Heckler. Barbara graduated from Marietta High School in 1956, attended Ohio State University and received her Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Marietta College in 1960. She married Edward A. Morbitzer, Jr. on August 24, 1961. They lived in Reynoldsburg, Ohio, Vancouver, WA, Lombard, IL and Rockwall, TX before returning to Marietta. Barbara was very proud to be a Cub Scout Den Mother, a Girl Scout Leader and a High School Math Teacher. She was the Math Department Chair at Rockwall High School in Texas. Barbara was a life long member of The Gilman United Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 64. She enjoyed bowling and being a member of the “My Miss Red Hat” group. She is survived by her husband, two sons and daughter, Edward C. of Richardson, TX, Andrew C. (Megan) of San Carlos, CA, and Nancy Ann of Richardson, TX. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Charles D., George E. and Eugene C. Heckler. Robert E. Schornstheimer, 91, of Marietta, died August 1, 2008, at Harmar Place. He was born in Syracuse, NY on April 20, 1917, the son of William and Freda Schafer Schornstheimer. Raised in Kingston and White Plains, NY, he was a 1939 graduate of Purdue University in chemical engineering, a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity and the chemical engineering honorary, later earning an MBA from Ohio University. After working for Mobil Corporation in New York City, he moved to Marietta in 1946 and was with the B.F. Goodrich Company for 36 years in various capacities, including Plant Engineer, Manufacturing Manager, and the last five years as Environmental and Safety Manager. An earlier marriage to Ruth McKinney of Marietta ended in divorce. In 1969, he married Nancy R. Badger of Marietta. An inventor at heart and holder of ten patents, he retired in 1982 when he and his wife embarked upon the RV life in the winters exploring the USA. Among civic activities, he was a past president of Marietta Rotary Club and 1974 United Appeal Campaign Chairman. In 1988, he and his wife moved to Brevard, NC for 19 years where he was very active in Waste Reduction Partners, an Asheville-based civic program using retired volunteer engineers to advise local and area companies on reducing environmental emission and waste hazards. The program eventually received national recognition through Parade Magazine. He also greatly enjoyed tennis and golf in both places and mountain hiking in Brevard. They returned to Marietta in early 2007 to enter Glenwood Retirement Community. He is survived by his wife, Nancy; his sister, Janet Mungo of Louisville, CO; two children, Robert L. Schornstheimer and wife, Mary, of Kailua, Hawaii, and Sally J. Schornstheimer of Chapel Hill, NC; three stepchildren, Cathy B. Riedel of Okinawa, Japan, Janice E. Badger and husband, Brian Keith of Orlando, FL, and David M. Badger and wife, Amy, of Columbus, OH; two nephews, David Mungo and wife, Merry, of Superior, CO and Kenneth Mungo of Kingston, NY. Ralph Junior Dick, 81, of Poplar Ave., Williamstown, WV, died Sunday morning, July 20, 2008, at his home. He was born January 6, 1927 in Williamstown to Ralph James and Exie Witt Dick. He had worked as a route salesman for Broughton Dairy for 38 years, retiring in 1987. Ralph also had been a contractor, doing siding and painting. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Ralph was one of the two surviving charter members of the American Legion Post 159 of Williamstown. He had attended the Norwood Methodist Church, and currently the First United Methodist Church in Williamstown. He loved spending time with family, cooking, making candy, and working in flowers. He enjoyed talking with neighbors and friends and exchanging stories of childhood. Ralph had many enjoyable days on his patio. She had been a cashier at Kroger for 19 years. Survivors, husband, Jemmy; stepson, James Boyce (Jan) of Reno; granddaughters, Morgan and Layman; sisters, Doris Drayer (Kenny) of Waterford and Donita Hupp of Pittsburgh, PA; three brothers, Dwight and Vaughn of Marietta and David (Cheri) of Panama City, FL. She graduated from Lash High School in Zanesville. She had been employed by David Davies, Inc. in Zanesville and Superior Model Company in Cambridge. Naomi had owned and operated Koenwick Antique Shop for 50 years in Lowell. She is survived by a sister, Wanda James of Cambridge. She was preceded in death by her sister, Myrl Reed. She was born October 22, 1936 in Marietta to Ralph and Madeline Williamson Mugrage. She had worked at Washington County Career Center from 1975 to 1996. She had attended Lowell United Methodist Church. Shirley enjoyed playing bingo and time spent with her family. She is survived by her mother, Madeline Miller of Lowell; eight children, Sandra Schilling (Charles), Jeff Anthony (Nancy), Carol Hopp (Donald, Jr.), Jayne Harris (Mark), Cheryl Brooker (Brian), all of Lowell, Tony Anthony (Tammy) of Marietta, Shelly Schexnider (Todd) and Madeline Brooker, of Lowell; 25 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren and a brother Kenneth Mugrage (Diane) of Lowell. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Clyde Anthony, Jr. on January 15, 2005; her father, four brothers and a sister. She was a member of the Whipple Baptist Church. Mary is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Martha of Lowell, David and Barbara of Beverly, Charles and Brenda of Greenville, SC, and John and Judy of Lowell; daughter-in-law, Freda Stevens of South Amherst ;17 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; ten great great grandchildren; brother, Charles Sidel (Luella) of Massillon and sister, Martha Stephens (Richard) of Barnesville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd M. Stevens in 1980, they had been married on March 31, 1937; a son, Darrell, and two brothers, Howard and Edward Sidel. He graduated from Salem Liberty High School in 1955 and from Ohio University in 1959. He was a retired Air Force Major, being a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict. He was a loving father, grandfather and brother. Charles is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen Goodwill; daughter, Beth Goodwill (Dan Fischer) of Sacramento, CA; son, Bradley Goodwill (Angie Manning Goodwill) of Seattle, WA; daughter, Staci (Alex) Marquez of San Jose, CA; sister, Ramona (Jack) Schofield of Whipple; brother, Vaughn (Sharon) Goodwill of Portland, OR, and grandchildren, Ethan, Paige and Malia Marquez, Adam, Emileigh and Liam Fisher. Oren Dean “Pete” Perdue, 67, of 2495 Moody Ridge Road, Vincent, died Friday, June 20, 2008, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Parkersburg. He was born December 15, 1940 in Belpre to Calvin Harding Perdue and Hazel Geneva Wentz Perdue Wilson. He was a 1958 graduate of Vincent High School. He had worked at Globe International/Interlake Steel for 24 years. He had owned Perdue’s Drive Thru in Parkersburg for eleven years. He was a member of the Barlow Coon Hunters Association and the Barnett Ridge Church of Christ. He loved dogs, horses, cars, motorcycles, and playing pool. Pete is survived by his mother of Barlow, his wife, Phyllis Cremeans Perdue, who he married on November 20, 1965; two daughters, Paula Dee Murray (Mike) of Cambridge and Michelle Leigh Perdue of Vincent; a special family friend, Cindy Burton and boys; three grandchildren, Tyler Dean and Shylah Louise Sprigg, and Stephanie Murray; three siblings, Calvin Clifton Perdue (Sue) of Barlow, Sharon Cunningham of Fleming and Philip Perdue (Judy) of Veto; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and a sister, Beverly Jean Arnold. Rodney Paul Paxton, 64, of Blue Knob Road, Marietta, died Wednesday, June 18, 2008, at Grant Medical Center in Columbus, as a result of a motor vehicle accident. He was born February 9, 1944 in Walton, WV to Willis Owen and Dorothy Eloise Looney Paxton. He attended Stanleyville School was a U.S. Army veteran. Rodney began working as a truck driver with Iddings Trucking. He spent the majority of his career as a crane operator for Marietta Industrial Enterprises. In 2002, he retired from Silvesco, Inc. Rodney was a member of the Eagles Lodge in Parkersburg. He was a past member of Warren Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed hunting, racing stock cars, and riding four wheelers. He was happiest when watching his grandchildren play sports. He is survived by his wife, Vera M. Brockmeier Paxton; son, Rodney Eugene “Gene” (Michele) of Waterford; daughter, Sandy Erb Wilson (Eric) of Westerville; seven grandchildren, Ryan, Mandy, Chelsey and Cody Paxton; Miranda and Michael Fulton and Amy Huck (Kenneth); great grandson, Ashton Huck; brother Dave Paxton (Carol); three sisters, Betty Smith (Arlie), Nancy Haynes (Larry), and Katie Thompson (Bill); two sisters-in-law, Millie Patterson (Lanny)and Barb Hasley (Paul); brother-in-law, Carl Morgan and many nieces and nephews. Patsy Louise “Pat” McKenna, 74, Marietta, died Sunday evening at her home, following an eleven year battle with cancer . Born June 13, 1934, in Marietta, she was the daughter of the late Emery S. and Catherine Howell Kemp. Pat was a 1952 graduate of Marietta High School. She retired from Marietta Savings Bank in 1993, following a career in banking that included more than 20 years at Pioneer Savings. She also had worked at Union Carbide (Bakelite) for several years. Pat was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ, where she served on the Board of Deacons; had been a Red Hatter and enjoyed time spent with her garden club. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Post #64, and the Alpha Iota Business Sorority. On September 2, 1956, she married David L. McKenna, who survives, with a daughter, Darca Dickson (Greg), of Marietta; a son, Patrick McKenna (Kelly), of Bradenton, FL; two grandchildren, Timothy and Kayla McKenna; a sister, Shirley Lutz (Clay), of Williamstown, WV; and three brothers, Ronald Kemp (Vivian), Larry Kemp (Judy), and Jack Kemp (Betty), all of Marietta. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 19, 2008, at First Congregational Church, 318 Front Street, Marietta, with The Rev. Linda Steelman officiating. She had worked at Marietta Memorial Hospital in Pediatrics for 23 years, retiring in 1985. She had been a member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, AARP, Marietta Senior Citizens, and the Practical Nurses Association of Ohio. She is survived by two sons, David A. Brown (Jane) of Bryan, OH and John C. Brown (Margene) of Marietta; four grandchildren, Jason Brown (Heidi), Courtney Powell (Eric), Nick and Alex Brown; three great grandchildren, and a sister-in-law, Marjorie Brown of Lowell. Brockmeier Patterson. He was a 1997 graduate of Marietta High School. He was a member of Elks Lodge 477 and the National Rifle Association. Kenneth was a Catholic by faith. Kenneth enjoyed hunting, riding four wheelers, shooting pool, video games and playing cards, especially Texas Hold’em. David Charles Schott, 53, of Whipple, died Sunday, June 1, 2008, at the Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus. Dave was a cancer survivor, but died from complications following surgery. He was born May 15, 1955 in Marietta to Charles L. and Elizabeth “Betty” Schilling Schott. He attended Salem-Liberty Elementary and graduated from Fort Frye High School in 1973. He had been employed at Marietta Ignition, Rech Farm Equipment, Marietta Farm and Garden, MIE, and Leslie Equipment Company before making his dream come true of owning his own machine shop in 2004. He was a member of St. Henry’s Catholic Church in Harriettsville, and also a member of the Salem Township Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed camping, deer hunting, and tractor pulling. He will be missed dearly by his friends and his family. He is survived by his mother of Lowell, his wife, Jane Ann Handschumacher Schott, whom he married on April 21, 1979; two sons, Douglas Charles and Curtis Edward (Sara Stephens); three brothers, Dan (Cindy), Donnie (Linda), Dale (Carylon); three sisters, Debbie (Dave) Biehl, Diane (Chris) Erb, Denise (Mike) Gerber; mother and father-in-law, Hod and Ruth Handschumacher; sister-in-law, Cheryl (Wayne) McAlarney; brother-in-law, Jay (Debbie) Handschumacher; many nieces and nephews and three great nieces.
