Jeannette Russ, 93, of Columbus, died Wednesday, October 23, 2013, in Columbus. She was born June 13, 1920 in Columbia, SC to Arthur Evans and Myrtle Ethel Perry McLendon. She was a graduate of the Lucy Webb Hayes-Sibley Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Washington, DC. She worked as a Registered Nurse from 1942 to 1976, primarily at Grant and Childrens hospitals in Columbus. She was a member of the East Baptist Church for 60 years, where she served in a variety of capacities, including the Ladies Mission Group. She is survived by a daughter, the Rev. Linda Steelman, of Marietta, a son, Dr. John S. Russ and wife, Penny, of Dublin, four granddaughters, Alissa Steelman of Upper Arlington, Jacquelyn Giunta and husband, Brian and their daughter, Bryn, of Powell, Jennifer Barrow and husband, Calvin, of Upper Arlington and Alexis Jones and husband, Dr. David, and their sons, William and Matthew, of Dublin, a brother, Jack McLendon, sisters in law, Ginny Russ and Ruth Young, and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, John S. Russ, Sr. on October 17, 2001, they had been married on October 4, 1942. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, October 28, 2013, at Schoedinger Northwest Chapel, 1740 Zollinger Road in Columbus, with her daughter officiating. Visitation will be on Monday, beginning at 1:00 p.m. Her burial will be at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery, where her husband is buried. Donations may be made to East Baptist Church Building Fund, 4295 E. Broad St., Columbus, OH 43213. The Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home is assisting the family with her service.
