Alice Maxine Barnett, 92, of Fleming, died Friday, September 5, 2014, at her home. She was born September 22, 1921 in Proctorville, Ohio to Urscle R. Peters and Cyril R. Allen, Sr. She was a graduate of Proctorville High School. Maxine had been employed by the Bureau of Employment Services, and had been an agent for Walter J. McCarthy Real Estate. She had been involved with the MOVP, Western Washington County Historical Society, Economic Round Table, had served on the Board of Community Action and the 648 Mental Health Board. She was past president of the Historical Harmar Bridge Society. Maxine is survived by her daughter, Sharon Barnett, (son in law, Alphonso Gaskins),of Nairobi Kenya), sons, Robert Barnett (Deborah) of Fleming, Michael Barnett (Carol) of Spring Valley, FL; granddaughters, Shoshanna Brooker, Summar Barnett, Toni Wilson, Alice Barnett, and Andrea Barnett, grandsons, James Carter, II and Jason Knight, and seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn W. Barnett, sons, Meredith Barnett (killed in Vietnam) and Glenn Barnett, II; brothers, Dr. John Allen and Dr. Cyril Allen, Jr.; sisters, Joyce Whaley, Donna Weaver and Margarete Allen and granddaughter, Ashley Barnett. Visitation will be at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, at Barnett Ridge Wesleyan Church with Bishop Gary Edwards and Brother Jerry Rippy officiating. Burial will follow in Barnett Ridge Cemetery.
