Andrew Wilson "Andy" Brackenridge, 91, of Brackenridge Road, Vincent, Ohio, died at 2:28 a.m. on Saturday, April 3, 2010 at Marietta Memorial Hospital. He was born on January 30, 1919 in the family home in Vincent to William D. and Veva Shaw Brackenridge. Andy attended Vincent High School and then served his country in the U.S. Army with the 531st Amphibious Engineers during WWII. He entered the service in April of 1942 and was honorably discharged in October of 1945, having served at various battle sites, including North Africa, Sicily, Italy, Normandy, and Germany. Andy retired from the Warren Local School District in 1982, following 36 years of service. He is a member of the Veto Presbyterian Church, a charter member of the VFW Post #5108 in Marietta, a life member of DAV Post #52, American Legion, Post #64, the Farm Bureau, Western Washington County Historical Society, Odd Fellows, and a life member of the Barlow Volunteer Fire Department. Andy built his own home and helped many others do the same. He was known as the neighborhood handyman, and enjoyed golfing and woodworking. He is survived by his son, Sidney Brackenridge (Lois) of Little Hocking; his daughter, Patty Ann Sands (Rev. James) of Norwich, Ohio; four grandchildren, Dr. Keith Brackenridge (Karen) of Mason, Ohio, Scott Brackenridge (Cathy) of Ostrander, Ohio, Jennifer Prall (Jason) of Hamilton, Ohio and Shellie Sands-Fall (Youssouff) of Canal Winchester, Ohio; seven great grandchildren, Kyle Brackenridge, Audrey, Justin and Chase Brackenridge and Anthony, Alyssa and Matthew Prall; his cousin, Betty Smith; two brothers-in-law, Wayne E. Ullman (friend, Peggy) of Lower Salem, and Daniel G. Ullman (friend, Sue) of Marietta; two sisters-in-law Mildred McCain (Donald) of Marietta, and Dorothy Wilkinson (Norman) of Marietta; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Caroline Louise Ullman Brackenridge on July 26, 2005, they were married on January 19, 1946. Andy was also preceded in death by his granddaughter, Joy Sands and brother, Rodney Brackenridge. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at the Barlow Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home, with Pastor Robin Swinsburg officiating. Burial will follow in Veto Cemetery, with full military honors. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday and for one hour prior to services on Tuesday.
