Ann Jill Scileppi

December 15, 1942 — May 29, 2019

Ann Jill Scileppi of Whipple Ohio passed away on the evening of May 29th, 2019, after a brief battle with cancer.

Born on December 15th, 1942, Jill grew up in a two-bedroom apartment on West 238th Street in the Bronx with her mother, father, and four siblings. She attended St. Nicholas of Tolentine and later earned a bachelor of science degree in nursing from Columbia University.

Upon completion of her studies, Jill began her career as recovery room nurse at Bellevue Hospital in New York City. There, she met her beloved husband of 48 years, Dr. Edward Scileppi. Once married, she and her husband traveled to Europe to reside in Nuremberg Germany while Edward completed his service as a physician in the United States Army. She and Edward fell in love with Germany, its people, and the German culture. They subsequently enjoyed many trips there and traveled extensively the rest of their lives to such diverse places as Sicily all the way to Pakistan.

In 1973, Jill ultimately settled down on a horse farm outside of Marietta, Ohio where she dedicated herself to her family and her Catholic faith. She was a devout member of Saint Mary of the Assumption Basilica Parish and sang in the choir for many years. During her last few years, she became a lector, facilitated daily mass, and was a member of the parish health ministry. Jill also volunteered her services at the Strecker Cancer Center where her experience as a nurse allowed her to assist the staff and provide comfort to the patients. She was known by everyone as a warm, sweet woman with a sunny disposition and ever present smile. Her optimism, decency, and good cheer were always on display and she lifted the spirits of everyone around her.

She is survived by her three children, Bill, Donna, and Bobby, four grandchildren, Collin, Jill, Shannon, and Elaina, three brothers, Ken, Bob, and John, and a sister Mary-Ann. She also has many nieces and nephews.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Strecker Cancer Center of Marietta or the Basilica of Saint Mary of the Assumption in Marietta.

Funeral Arrangements will be handled by Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home. Please see their website, www.cawleyandpeoples.com for details. Her service will be held at the Basilica of Saint Mary of the Assumption on Monday June 3rd at 10:00am, with the Rev. Msgr. John Michael Campbell celebrating. The family will greet friends following the service in the church social hall.
