Anne Chancellor Cogswell

Anne Chancellor Cogswell, 87, of Marietta, died Tuesday, October 14, 2014, at Emeritus of Marietta. She was born November 17, 1926 in Vienna, WV to Russell Paul and Estelle Chancellor Reps. She had received her BA in Education from Randolph-Macon Women's College in Lynchburg, VA and went on to teach in the West Virginia School System, the Columbus City and Marietta City schools systems, retiring in 1975. Anne played piano and was involved in many school plays and choral functions. She was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ and had been active in the youth church choir. She was very active in the community, being a member of Arts and Letters, and was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow in the Marietta Rotary Club, but, most of all, enjoyed being a mom and grandma. Anne is survived by her husband, Harry Max Cogswell, three sons, Benjamin Reps Cogswell (Melissa) of Lowell, Daniel Linn Cogswell of Marietta, and Russell Paul Cogswell (Traci) of Marietta, five grandchildren, Harry Wilson, Max Chancellor, Brandon Russell, Whitney Allison Dobek and Russell Heath, a great granddaughter, Rory Dobek and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Jane Putnam and Myra Couch. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 17, 2014, at the First Congregational Church, with the Rev. Linda Steelman officiating. Friends may call at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 on Thursday and also on Friday at the church for one hour prior to service. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. Her family would like to acknowledge the support and care Anne received in the Alzheimer's Unit at Emeritus. Donations in her memory should be directed to the Marietta High School "Wall of Sound" Band, P.O. Box 224, Marietta, OH 45750.
