Avis Spindler Bond, formerly of Barlow, died Thursday, April 1, 2010, at Harmar Place in Marietta. She was born September 2, 1928 in Caywood to Alexander and Emma Bules Spindler. She grew up in Stanleyville and Marietta, and graduated from Marietta High School in 1946. On June 2, 1950, she was married to Harold "Husky" Bond, who preceded her in death on January 1, 2003. Before her marriage, Avis was employed by IDECO and Becker Motors. Later, she volunteered for several years as a dispatcher for the Barlow Township Volunteer Fire Department. She is survived by a daughter, Susan Stacy, and her husband, Jamie, of Marietta; two sons, Larry Bond and his wife, Teresa, of Amanda, and Terry Bond and his wife, Cathy, of Williamsburg, VA; two grandsons, Michael Bond of Chicago, IL and Patrick Bond of Columbus; sisters-in-law, Betty Spindler, Adrienne (Robert) Weyrich, and Donna (Glen) Sprague, and several nieces and nephews. Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Gerald, Loren, Donald, Richard, Dale and Dean Spindler. Following her mother's death at an early age, Avis was raised by her uncle and aunt, Elwood and Clara Spindler. She was also preceded in death by her adopted parents and adopted sister, Irene Thompson, and adopted brothers, Roy, Ralph, Herbert, Harold, and Herman Spindler. A very special thank you goes to all of our "Angels" at Harmar Place. We cannot thank you enough for the loving care you gave Avis during her time there. You were truly like family to us. The Barlow Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. At her request, she will be cremated, and there will be no calling hours. A graveside memorial service at Barlow Central Cemetery will be held on Saturday, April 10, 2010, at 4:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made in Avis' name to the Barlow VFD, P.O.
