Barbara Sue McCarthy Tewkesbury, 59 went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, December 29, 2008, after losing a valiant battle with heart disease. Barbara was born to Bernard and Norma Lowe McCarthy on April 26, 1949 in Marietta. She graduated from Marietta High School in 1967, and went on to become an L.P.N., working at Marietta Memorial Hospital, and then years at Dudley's Hallmark. On January 24, 1969, she was married to Steven Joe Tewkesbury. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. Barbara, or "Barbie" as she was called by her family and closet of friends, was known for her loving and kind nature, and endless love and support to her family and friends. She cherished her family times, holidays, her summer vacations with her family in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina and most importantly her friends. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Marietta. She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Steven Joe Tewkesbury, one son, Michael Todd (Teri) Tewkesbury and her three loving grandchildren, Ashley, Chelsea and Douglas Tewkesbury of Middleburg, FL; two sisters, Diana (Brett) Thatcher and Lisa (Jim) Hershey, both of Van Wert, Ohio; two brothers, Jon McCarthy of Powell, Ohio and David (Terri) McCarthy of Middlepoint, Ohio; nieces, Hollie Phillips, Ashley and Casey McCarthy; nephews, Ryan and Kevin McCarthy, Eric Swander and Heath Eggleston; stepmother, Barb McCarthy, and dozens and dozens and dozens of cousins; very loving lifelong friends, Barbara Freeland, Jo Erlwein and Carmen Spring. She will be deeply missed by all and will always hold a special place in the hearts of her family, friends and all those she touched. Funeral Liturgy, with Mass, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 7, 2009, at St. Mary Catholic Church, with The Rev. Seth Wymer as celebrant. Friends may call at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. There will be a Vigil Service held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, at the funeral home.
