Ben Franklin Schultheis

December 12, 1944 — June 10, 2013

Ben Franklin Schultheis, 68, of Marietta, passed on June 10, 2013, in his home, surrounded by loved ones and his beloved pets. He was born December 12, 1944 in San Diego, California to Darrel and Helen Warren Schultheis. He was raised in Newport and worked on the family orchards there. He spent his career in the car business in many roles. He loved and enjoyed his work family and customers. Special thanks to his Superior Toyota family for the love and support they have shown through the years, as well as to his loyal customers who often followed him from dealership to dealership. Ben loved motorcycles and cars and raced both in his youth. He relished the comradery of being with his hunting buddies and time spent fishing for many years while vacationing at Buck Shot Lake in Canada with family and friends. Coming up on his favorite time of year, he was looking forward to strawberry picking and local fresh produce. Ben had an iconic look. When most picture him, a newsboy cap, well-coordinated sweater vest and button up shirt, and the trademark tobacco pipe are envisioned. As an avid pipe smoker, he found comfort in this to his last days. Gardening and lawn care were true passions; once that work was done, he enjoyed watching NCIS and Ohio State football. He was an avid reader and historian, often planning vacations to historical sites. The consummate people person, you could depend on being greeted by his genuine smile, big hug, or handshake. Instead of a text or email, you would receive a phone call or beautifully penned note. He openly expressed his love for his family and friends, being especially proud of his grandsons. Always a hard worker, his strength and character were admired by many. Ben is survived by his wife, Brenda L. Milam Schultheis, his father of Marietta, two daughters, Alyson Schultheis of Cleveland and Kristin Sloter (Larry) of Marietta, two sons, Scott Hill of Los Angeles and Sean Hill of Bridgeman, Michigan, his grandsons, Gabriel and Reid Sloter, a sister, Susan Conrad (Gary) of West Chester, Ohio a brother R. Kirk Schultheis (Anna) of Parkersburg, West Virginia and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother. Ben's family would like to thank the many health care professionals who were involved in his care and treatment. There will be a Memorial Service for Ben held at St. Luke's Episcopal Church on Monday, June 17, 2013 at 5:00pm, with the Rev. David Ruppe officiating. Ben's ashes will be entombed in St. Luke's Columbarium. The family will greet friends at a reception in the parish hall following the service. Donations may be made to WesBanco, 200 Second St., Marietta, Ohio 45750 for an education fund for his grandsons. The Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home is assisting the family.
