Benjamin "Ben" Leander Heppner, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 16, 2025 at Marietta Memorial Hospital in Marietta, Ohio. He was born on April 23, 1952, in Zanesville, Ohio to Paul and Marie Heppner and he lived a life full of love, laughter, and dedication to his family and passions.

Ben was a proud graduate of Morgan High School, class of 1970, and furthered his education at Ohio University. Following his education he proudly served his country in the Army Security Agency during the Vietnam War from 1971 until 1974. He dedicated his professional life to his craft as an electrician, working with the IBEW Local Union #972 from 1975 until his retirement in 2009.

A man of many interests, Ben enjoyed being a drummer and listening to music, especially tunes from the 1960s and 1970s. He was an avid traveler, always seeking warmth and adventure, and a passionate Ohio State Football fan. Above all, Ben cherished spending time with his family and his loyal dog, Zero. He was a member of the Harmer Hill Church of Christ. Ben's legacy of love, laughter, and music will continue to resonate in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.

Ben is survived by his loving wife Wendy Bates Heppner, whom he married on October 17, 2009; his daughter, Angela Lukehart (Reese); his bonus daughters, Rachel Price (Adam) and Nicole Jobe (Nick); and his 11 cherished grandchildren: Kira, Olivia, Claire, Sam, Nathan, Avery, Lucas, Nora, Natalie, Nolla, and Nash. He also leaves behind his brother, Edward McGrath (Charlotte); sister-in-law, Jo; many nieces and nephews; his special friend, Gary Lee; and his faithful dog, Zero.

He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Russel Duncan; brother, Paul "Jerry" Heppner; and sister, Donna Woodward.

In accordance with Ben's wishes, he will be cremated, and no services will be held at this time. The family invites those who wish to honor Ben's memory to make donations to the Humane Society of the Mid-Ohio Valley, 90 Mount Tom Road, Marietta, OH 45750.
