Benjamin Luke Roberts

July 7, 1989 — October 1, 2012

Benjamin Luke Roberts of Marietta took his last breath in the arms of his mother.
Although born with a heart defect, he enjoyed life to the fullest. Ben loved his family and friends, never forgetting a birthday or any important events in their lives. He was a loving and thoughtful brother to his sisters Beth and Kate; who he adored and worried about every day. He was a devoted uncle to Lucas and Jackson, and loved spending time reading, building, and playing with them. Ben was also known as "the baby whisperer" and personal assistant to his little Daryan Kate. He graduated from Marietta High School in 2008, and kept in touch with his teachers via emails and luncheons.
His favorite things were Disney World, swimming, buying gifts for others, playing Xbox360 online with family, traveling to visit family, and driving his golf cart. One of the highlights of Ben's life came as he was in the stands to cheer his UMD Bulldogs on to a National Championship in Alabama with his dad. Visiting the zoo, Kalahari, and football games with the Shepherds and Wiese's was another highlight. If Ben were here today he would tell his friend Kerry "Go Michigan" and snicker with that big grin. On October 1st he gave his best, fighting a fight like no other. Through it all he had facebook fans and family cheering him on and a group of surgeons and nurses who worked tirelessly to repair the most beautiful heart in the world. Ben was a friend to everyone. His strength and compassion for others and always putting them first was his motto.
He is survived by his loving parents, Roger and Laurie Roberts, and his devoted sisters, Beth-Anne (Jason) Moore and Kate Roberts, and his adoring nephews, Lucas and Jackson Moore, all of Marietta. Ben was preceded in death by his grandmother, Juanita Williams, his great-grandmother Quindola Watkins, his aunt, Amy McCulley, and aunt, Paula Mellor. In addition to his immediate family, Ben is survived by his grandparents, Fred and Ann Badertscher of Norwich, OH. He is also survived by his aunts and uncles, Julie (Glen) Rollins of NC, Ramona (Bob) Morrow of New Concord, OH, Michael (Emily) Roberts and Kim Mack of Jefferson, OH, Kerry (Dan) Shepherd of Shadyside OH, and Jenny (Curt) Wiese of Duluth MN. Ben was an inspiration to his many cousins including Randy (Crystal) Morrow of New Concord, OH, Renee (Brian) Coll of Zanesville, OH, Ryan (Joyce) Morrow and Sean (Hayley) Mellor of Fort Myers, Fl., Kyle, Alec and Kaden Shepherd of Shadyside OH, Alexis, Makenna and Brooke Wiese of Duluth MN.
He will be loved and missed by the countless whose lives he touched. Calling hours will be at The Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home on Thursday, October 4, 2012, from 2-8 p.m. The funeral will be on held on Friday, October 5, 2012, at 11 a.m., also at the funeral home, with Pastor Roger Morrow officiating.
