Benjamin Franklin Sauer, Jr.

September 13, 1961 — November 23, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Benjamin "Ben" Franklin Sauer Jr., who departed this life on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at the age of 63. He was born on September 13, 1961, in Mansfield, Ohio to Benjamin Franklin Sauer Sr. and Opal Maxine Baker Sauer, who preceded him in death. Ben spent the majority of his life bringing joy, kindness, and wisdom to those fortunate enough to know him. He was a beloved resident of Marietta, Ohio, where he lived with his family.

Ben was a dedicated and a proud graduate of Marietta High School, Class of 1979, and he went on to earn a degree from Franklin University. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Ben was a decorated Army veteran, having served 23 years of active duty in a military career that spanned over 34 years before retiring as a Master Sergeant with honors. Those who served with him remember his unwavering commitment to his country and his comrades. After retiring from the military, Ben found a career serving in Human Resources.

Ben found immense joy in his role as a Scoutmaster with the Boy Scouts of America, Troop 216, dedicating nearly 29 years to guiding and mentoring young Scouts. He was an enthusiastic outdoorsman, cherishing time spent camping with family, friends, and scouts. He enjoyed tinkering with his truck, camper and pontoon boat. Ben loved grilling and took pride in his barbecued ribs and his campfire building skills.

He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Theresa Marie Sauer, whom he married on July 13, 1985. Together, they built a life filled with love and adventure. He is lovingly remembered by his sons, George Sauer, Ryan Sauer (Jessica), and Corey Sauer; his daughter, Autumn Ewing (Addam); and his cherished grandchildren, Laurel Sauer and Cadence Ewing. Ben also leaves behind his siblings, Linda White, Ellen Carpenter, and Michael Sauer; as well as his godchildren, Cody Coleman and Candace Coleman.
