Betty Lou Boersma

April 9, 1932 — July 31, 2024

Betty Lou Weber Boersma, 92, of Marietta, Ohio, died on Wednesday, July 31, 2024 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on April 9, 1932 in Lowell, Ohio to Donald Dawes and Wilma Irene Schau Lowe.

Betty graduated from Lowell High School in 1950, and received her teaching degree from Ohio University. She married Charles Richard “Dick” Weber on May 21, 1953. They owned and operated Weber’s Market for many years.

She married Robert P. Boersma on November 22, 1978. Betty was a member of The Basilica of St. Mary of the Assumption, the Catholic Women’s Club, Betsey Mills Club Girls Council, the board of the Women’s Home, Franciscan Meals, OCCL, and was a longtime volunteer at Marietta Memorial Hospital. She was awarded the Zonta Woman of the Year award from the Chamber of Commerce in 2001. Betty first and foremost enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren, traveling, reading, playing cards and trips to the casino.

She is survived by her children, Cecilia Eversman (Bill), Mary Summers (Jeff), Joe Weber (Brandi), Mike Weber, Neva Kern (Mike) and Beth Brooker (Jake); daughter in law, Suzanne Weber; brother, Donald Douglas Lowe (Mary); step children, Robert Boersma (Phyllis), James Boersma (Kathy), Susan Carder (Douglas), Deborah Elsibai and John Boersma (Michele); many grandchildren and great grandchildren; and many extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Dick, who died on June 13, 1975; and Bob who died on December 24, 2023; son, Richard “Tony” Weber; sisters, Maxine Stokes, Norma McCarthy, Donna Beardsley and Jackie Moyers; and step daughter, Peggy Hadley.

Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 5, 2024 at The Basilica of St. Mary of the Assumption, with The Rev. Msgr. John Michael Campbell celebrating. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2 pm to 5 pm at the MARIETTA CHAPEL OF CAWLEY & PEOPLES FUNERAL HOME, with a Vigil Service held at 2 pm.

In lieu of flowers, Betty would ask that you do something kind for others in need or you can make a contribution to St. Mary’s Catholic School, 320 Marion St., Marietta, OH 45750 or The Betsey Mills Club, 300 4th St., Marietta, OH 45750. The family would like to thank all of her wonderful caregivers from Right At Home and Cawley Hospice.
