Betty H. DeLong, 84, of Lowell, died at 11:00 p.m. Monday, December 8, 2014, at Marietta Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. She was born January 30, 1930 in Jerusalem, Ohio to Robert Franklin and Mildred Leach Hinton. Her family later lived in Woodsfield before moving to Lowell in 1942. Betty was a 1947 graduate of Lowell High School and was selected Senior Queen, was a cheerleader and loved playing the piano, being voted most talented in music by her junior class. On December 30, 1947 she married Bernard R. DeLong. Together they had five children, Richard (Karen) DeLong of Marietta, Patricia (Harvey) Morris of Medina, David DeLong, Stephen DeLong and Bernard (Sandy) DeLong II, all of Lowell; five grandchildren, Meredith (Andrew) Chan of Medina, Brian DeLong of Marietta, Dr. Laura Jean (Aaron) Wood of Baltimore, MD, Lauren and Eric DeLong of Lowell; great granddaughters, Mia Chan of Medina, McKenzie DeLong of Marietta and Eleanor Rae Wood of Baltimore, MD; a brother, John W. (Mary) Hinton of Lowell and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 2003, brother, Robert Hinton and sisters, Mildred Fraley, Marie Moore and Jeane Dowler. Betty was a member of Mt. Moriah Chapter 506, Order of Eastern Star and the Lowell United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the church choir. Services will be held at the Lowell United Methodist Church on Friday, December 12, 2014, at 10:00 a.m.with Pastor Pamela Lashley officiating. Friends may call on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Lowell Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home and also for one hour prior to her service at the church.
