Betty M. Fleming

Betty M. Fleming, 98; of 3 Hickory Lane, Marietta, died Monday, March 17, 2025.

She was born February 11, 1927, in Keystone, W.Va. to Cora E. and Charles C. Johnson. School began in Keystone with graduation from Northfork High School, in Northfork, W.Va. She attended Marshall College and medical technology school at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital in Parkersburg, W.Va. She worked as a Registered Medical Technologist, A.S.C.P., at Camden-Clark, George Washington University Hospital in Washington, D.C. and Marietta Memorial Hospital. At one time, she was secretary to the sales manager of Craig Motor Sales in Fairmont, W.Va., and later worked in the Research and Development Laboratory of Owens-Illinois Glass Company in Fairmont.  On September 9, 1949, she married Donald P. Fleming, Jr.

She was a devout member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Marietta, and a member of the Episcopal Church Women, had taught Sunday School there and served on the vestry.

Also, she was a member and Past President of Chapter U, P.E.O.; Past President and sustaining member of The Marietta Welfare League and served on the Women's Board of the Betsey Mills Club. She worked as a volunteer at several fundraisers for Marietta Memorial Hospital, served on the board of The Friends of the Museum and was a volunteer at the museum. The Backpack Project was near and dear to her heart and she was a committee member for that, also.

She is survived by four much loved daughters, Dana (Daniel) Strecker, Brooke (Joseph) Tucker, twins Whitney (David) Komjati (Painesville), and Paige A. Fleming (Chad); many beloved grandchildren, an ever-growing number of great-grandchildren, two nieces, a nephew, and several great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Donald P. Fleming, Jr. (November 30, 2008); her sister, Lucy England; and a grandson, Tyler P. Komjati.

Betty’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Ashley, Britiny, Cynthia, Heaven, Jennifer, Lori, and Montana, for their dedicated and loving care to their mother for the past 7+ years.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 23, 2025 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 320 Second St., Marietta, at 2:00pm. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00pm Saturday, at Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Homes, 408 Front St., and for one hour prior to the funeral services at the church. Burial in Parkersburg Memorial Gardens.
