Betty Way Reed Van Hine, 85, of Waterford passed away Sunday, August 6, 2017, at Appletree Assisted Living in Beverly, Ohio.
Betty was born April 25, 1932 to Wesley M. and Iva Hinzman Way in Lowell, Ohio. She graduated from Lowell High School in 1950. She was a former secretary and teacher's aide at Lowell Elementary and an aide in Pinellas County School District in Florida. She was a Brownie Scout leader in Lowell as well as a lifelong member of Lowell Methodist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher and choir member in her younger years.
Betty enjoyed reading, watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, and collecting amethyst glass. She especially enjoyed visits from her great grandsons Kameron and Klayton (9/7/12-5/7/17).
Betty was married February 14, 1951 to David C. Reed in Lowell. They later divorced. To this union was born David D. Reed (Helen) of St. Petersburg, FL, Debbie Beardmore (Jerry) of Waterford, OH, Marlene Landis (David) of Baltimore, OH, and Cynni Francis (Marty) of Caldwell, OH.
On January 26, 1979, Betty married Francis Van Hine in Fort Lauderdale, FL, who preceded her in death on January 23, 2012. She is also survived by her four stepchildren Paul, Dave, Peter Van Hine, and LeeAnn Sealy.
Betty found joy in spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her grandchildren include Sibyl Reed, Dustin (Kelly) Reed, Amanda (Dustin) French, Father Brad Reed, Jeremy (Melissa) Johnson, Jason (Kendra) Johnson, Rachelle (Jeremy) Dicus, Jennifer (Matt) Adams, Robyn (Matt) Bally, Brynna (Mitch) Clutter, Alex (Kristin) White, Krysta (Jeremy) White, Nicki (Dave) Dupler, Kayla (Nate) Simons, and Jeana (JR) Farnsworth. Betty's great grandchildren include Maddy, Chance, Daisy, Katelyn, Ashlyn, Connor, Mazzi, Kameron, Reagan, Grace, Ryann, Ella, Silas, Bennett, Preston, Braeden, Tauren, Adler, and Aurelia. Betty's great great grandchildren include Jace and Ella. She also had numerous step grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister and brother-in-law (Selma and Wayne Worthington), and great grandsons Gabriel Matthew Evener and Klayton David Johnson. Betty is also survived by the loving, caring staff at Appletree Homes whom the family thanks for her care.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Lowell Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to BrAva (local children's cancer charity), PO Box 535, Marietta, Ohio, 45750 in honor of Ava and Hailey.
