Brigadier General Carl R. Morin, Jr., 70, of The Fields in Williamstown, died Monday, May 24, 2010, at The Inn at Marietta after a courageous battle with Lewy Body Dementia. He was born in Eustis, FL on April 14, 1940 to Carl R. Morin and Pauline Trimble Morin. He graduated from Melbourne High School in 1958 and the U.S. Military Academy, West Point in 1962. From 1963-1966, General Morin served with the 25th Infantry Division in Hawaii, which included a deployment to Vietnam. General Morin attended the University of Florida, graduating in 1967 with a MA in History, and then accepted an assignment as Assistant Professor of Military Science at the Pennsylvania Military College. In 1970, General Morin returned to Vietnam and then was assigned to Fort Sill, OK from 1971-1974, where he served as XO, 1st Battalion, 30th Field Artillery and S-3, 75th Field Artillery Group. In 1975, General Morin graduated from the Air Command and Staff College and was then assigned to Heidelberg, Germany where he served as a Staff Officer and then as Chief, Seventh Army Training Command Liaison to HQ, USAREUR. From 1979-1980, General Morin commanded the 2d Battalion, 12th Field Artillery at Fort Sill. He then became an instructor for the Combined Arms and Services Staff School at Fort Leavenworth, KS. Next he attended the Army War College at Carlisle Barracks, graduating in June, 1984. General Morin then assumed command of the 212th Field Artillery Brigade in Fort Sill. After the brigade command, General Morin served at the Pentagon as Chief, Technical Inspections Division, Department of the Army Inspector General and Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense, Reserve Affairs for Readiness Training where he served until his retirement in 1990. After retiring, General Morin accepted a position with EER Systems, Inc. as Deputy Director and subsequent Director of the Medical Systems Group. General Morin moved to Cambridge Consulting Corporation as a Project Manager from 2000-2001. He then returned to EER/L-3 Systems, Inc. as Director, Medical Systems Group until health issues forced his retirement in 2003. General Morin's distinguished military career includes the following decorations: the Defense Distinguished Service Medal, the Legion of Merit (2 awards), Bronze Star Medal (3 awards), Meritorious Service Medal (4 awards), Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Purple Heart , and the Humanitarian Service Medal. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Williamstown, WV. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Licht Morin, they were married on March 10, 1963. Also surviving is his mother, Pauline Bullard of Ormond Beach, FL, two daughters, Kathy Albertson (Mike) of Williamstown and Sherri Osbourne (Jason) of Gainesville, VA, four granddaughters, Megan and Heather Albertson and Rachel and Amanda Hish; two brothers, Glenn Morin (Deby) of Ormond Beach, FL, Chris Morin (Sally) of Clarksville, TN, and two sisters, Peggy Clark (Wade) of Christiansburg, VA and Nancy Winecoff (Dan) of Ormond Beach, FL. He was preceded in death by his father, brother, Louis Morin and step father, James Bullard. A memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 28, 2010, at the First United Methodist Church of Williamstown, with the Dr. Steve Gedon officiating. The family will greet friends on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home, 408 Front St., Marietta, OH. His ashes will be taken to East Lawn Mausoleum. There will be services there by the American Legion. At a later date, a funeral with full military honors will be held at the United States Military Academy, West Point.
