Byron Douglas "Doug" McKenzie, 58, of Marietta, died Wednesday, December 9, 2009, at Marietta Memorial Hospital. He was born March 18, 1951 in Parkersburg, WV to Dale Edward and Sylvia Marie Salisbury McKenzie. He was a 1969 graduate of Marietta High School and had attended college at The Ohio State University. He had been employed by Venture Construction, and had recently retired. Doug was very involved with the Marietta High School crew and the Harmar Rowing Club. He enjoyed music, playing guitar and golf. He is survived by his mother, Sylvia Cumberledge and step father, Keith, of Marietta, his wife, Sherry Lee McKenzie whom he married on March 5, 1988, two daughters, Abby, a student at The Ohio State University and Hannah, a student at Marietta High School, two brothers, Paul (Karen) of Hollister, CA and Samuel of Chillicothe, three sisters, Claudia Smith of Chandler, AZ, Colleen Hammond (Joe) of Mason, and Carole Wright of Marietta, a step brother and step sister and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and a niece, Ashley Binegar. Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 13, 2009, at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home with The Rev. Faith Perrizo officiating. The family will greet friends on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until time of the service. Donations may be made to the Harmar Rowing Club, P.O. Box 5019, Marietta, OH 45750.
