Another World War II veteran has died. Carl Everett "Tod" Pinkerton, 86, of Vincent, died Thursday, March 3, 2011, at Marietta Memorial Hospital. He was born May 6, 1924 at Gravel Bank, Warren Township to Benjamin P. and Ethel Roxie Noland Pinkerton. He graduated in 1942 from Marietta High School. He was a U. S. Navy air crewman in the South Pacific, serving from March of 1943 to March of 1946. He had retired from Elkem Metals and had farmed for almost 50 years, living on the same farm with his wife for 43 years. He loved working with his cattle and raising their family. He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Callihan Pinkerton, they had been married on June 16, 1949; five children, Neal Pinkerton (Sandy) of Vincent, Carol (Mike) Schaad of Marietta, Emma Lou (Eric) Otstot of Cornerville, Joe Pinkerton (Dina) of Marietta, and Lou Ann Hamilton of Painesville, ten grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents, sister, Doris Burns, a grandson, Nicholas Otstot, and son in law, Jon Hamilton. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 5, 2011, at the Barlow Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home, with Pastor Earl James officiating. There will be full military honors immediately following the pastor's message. The family will greet friends for one hour prior to his service.
