Carlyle E. Hill, 88, of Marietta, died Friday, November 7, 2014, at Muskingum Valley Rehab in Beverly. He was born August 1, 1926 in Marietta to Sidney A. and Edith McCall Hill. He was a graduate of Marietta High School and a U. S. Army veteran of World War II. During his service to our country, he was presented with the following medals: Good Conduct, Bronze Arrow, WWII Victory Ribbon, and the Purple Heart. He was a member of American Legion, Post #64 and VFW Post 5108. Carlyle had been employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 31 years, retiring in 1988 as Superintendent of Mails. He is survived by two daughters, Christine Morrison (Kirk Adie) of Marietta and Melissa Hill Grande (David) of Bethel Park, PA; a grandson, Liam Patrick Hill Grande; four nephews, Terry Wittekind (Glinda), Richard Wittekind (Janet), Michael Wittekind, and Rick Farnsworth, all of Marietta; one niece, Patricia Romish (David) of Inverness, FL; and one brother in law, Bill Farnsworth (Mary) Marietta. Carlyle was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Farnsworth Hill, on March 31, 2001. They had been married on December 7, 1963. He was also preceded by a sister, Eleanor Wittekind, and a nephew, Jeffrey Wittekind. Funeral services will be held at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home, on Wednesday, November 12, 2014, at 11:00 a.m., with the Rev. Rick Headley officiating. Friends may call on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be at East Lawn Memorial Park, with full military honors. Donations may be made to the Humane Society of the Mid-Ohio Valley, P.O.
