Carol Virgene Bond Ryan

Carol Virgene Bond Ryan, 82, died Wednesday, January 20, 2010, at her home in Fleming. She was born August 26, 1927 in Barlow to the late Roy and Ruby Foreman Bond. Carol had been a member of the Barlow Presbyterian Church since 1939, where she had been the oldest member. She attended Barlow Grade School and graduated from Barlow Rural High School in Vincent in 1945. On March 17, 1948, she was united in marriage with Thomas O. Ryan at McArthur, Ohio by the Rev. H. L. Weir. Carol had worked at the Barlow telephone office during high school and at intervals after graduation. She was one of the operators when the system went to dial up. Carol was also active with the Barlow Central Cemetery for almost 15 years and worked in the secretary's office for the Barlow Fair Board for 48 years. Carol was also a member of the Western Washington County Area Historical Society. She is survived by her husband; daughter, Peggy Jo (Larry) Cox of Layman; son, Paul Eugene (Cathy) Ryan of Fleming; sisters, Donna (Glen) Sprague of Vincent and Adrienne (Robert) Weyrich of Fleming; sister-in-law, Avis Bond of Marietta; two grandchildren, Mark Edward Goudy of Marietta and Jessica Jean Ryan of Fleming; four step grandchildren, Crystal (Jarrod) Merrow of Fleming, Michell Bruce of Parkersburg, WV, Stephanie Cox of Bartlett and Rodney Cox of Indianapolis, IN and four step great grandchildren, Michael, Rachal and Dylan Merrow, Dwayne Singer, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Harold "Husky" Bond and sister and brother-in-law, Vernice and George Root and one sister-in-law, Louella Finkel. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 24, 2010, at the Barlow Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home, with Pastor Rick Hastings officiating. Burial will be in Barlow Central Cemetery. Friends may call on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Donations may be made to the Barlow Presbyterian Church, P.O.
