Charles E. Spires

Charles “Bud” Spires, 94, of Cutler, Ohio passed away on Tuesday, December 17, 2024. He was born on November 5, 1930 in Lancaster, Ohio to Frank and Alice Morris Spires.

After graduating from St. Mary’s School in 1948, Bud worked at the Producers Livestock Market until 1951. He then served his country in the Army during the Korean War from 1951 until 1953. He worked at the stockyards in Chillicothe, Ohio through 1956, at which time he purchased the Farmers Livestock Auction in Marietta that he owned and operated for many years. Bud then became a Real Estate Broker, specializing in farm properties. He worked hard all his life caring for his cattle until he was 91 years old.

Bud married Angeline Walker in 1957 and was blessed with four daughters: Catherine Elizabeth Webster – deceased, Lynne McGraw (Fred), JoAnne Weisser (Mark), Kristen Dodd (Doug). He then married Judith Perdue in 1994 who preceded him in death. He gained more children through this marriage: Kelly McLaughlin (Bob), Joni Grady-Prince (Rickey), William Grady, James Grady – deceased. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren, including special granddaughter, Brooke Hupp, who was his kind and loving caregiver for the last several years.

He enjoyed the family farm that he shared with his cattle and Buddy Cat.

A Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be held at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Little Hocking, Ohio at 1:00 pm on Saturday, December 28, 2024 with Father David Huffman officiating. Visitation will be at the BARLOW CHAPEL OF CAWLEY & PEOPLES FUNERAL HOME on Saturday, December 28, 2024 from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm. A graveside service will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Little Hocking following the service. Memorial donations may be made to St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 5080 School House Rd., Little Hocking, OH 45742.
