Clair J. Schwendeman, 90, of Lowell, died Thursday, July 18, 2013, at The Arbors, at Marietta. He was born February 21, 1923 in Watertown to Cornelius P. and Sophia D. Tullius Schwendeman. He was a graduate of Lowell High School. Clair was a proud veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army from February 1, 1943 to January 2, 1946, being a charter member of American Legion Post #750 in Lowell, and having participated in many military funerals and functions. He had worked as a machinist at Keene Corp. Metal Products in Parkersburg. He was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Lowell and the K of C Council #4617 in Beverly. Clair is survived by seven daughters and four sons, Nora E. Miller of Lowell, Sophia A. Rauch (Leroy) of Waterford, Virginia T. Cothern (Howard) of Mt. Gilead, Sue E. Bechtel (Tom) of Harrodsburg, KY, Rebecca J. Britton (Tom) of Lowell, Mary Jo Mintz (Rick) of Marble Fall, TX, Bernadette M. Wears (Kevin) of Waterford, Jay Clair (Michelle) of Caldwell, , Michael J. (Jeannie) of Lexington, SC, Roland A. (Jane) of Salem, and Donald W. (Kim) of Cumming, GA, many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Clair was preceded by his wife, Edna Ellen Hupp Schwendeman, on April 29, 1996, they had been married on June 2, 1943, also by a daughter, Ramona, and sisters, Edna Miller and Lucille Pottmeyer. Funeral Liturgy, with Mass, will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 22, 2013, at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, with the Rev. Timothy Shannon as celebrant. Friends may call at the Lowell Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home on Saturday and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. There will be a Vigil Service at 8:00 p.m. on Sunday. Donations may be made to the L-A Fire & Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 406, Lowell, OH 45744. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
