Clarence Delmer Schmidt Jr., 88, of Lowell, died Sunday (April 11, 2010) at Genesis Health Care in McConnelsville. Born July 28, 1921, in Washington County, Ohio, he was a son of the late Clarence D. and Alma Henniger Schmidt Sr. Clarence had retired from Hyde Brothers Printing in Marietta and had farmed in the Lowell area. He was a member of St. John's Evangelical Church. He also was a member of the American Legion Post 750, where he was a past commander. Clarence had served with the Army in World War II and with the Air Force in the Korean War. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Marietta and the Masonic Lodge in Lowell. Clarence always enjoyed a good card game. He is survived by eight nephews and nieces, Robert Hicks, Carolyn Engle, Betty Sargent, Norma Davis, Charles Schmidt, Gary Sargent, Bonnie Schmidt and Donald Sargent. Also by many great-nephews and great-nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Verna Long, Jo Wilking and Eleanor Sargent; two brothers, Ray and George Schmidt; and by a niece, Wanda Sharon. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 14, 2010, at the Lowell Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home with Pastor Don Hart officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery with full military rites observed. Friends may call on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home, where Masonic services will be held at 7 p.m. Memorial donations may be directed to the O'Neill Center, Adult Day Care, 333 Fourth St., Marietta, Ohio 45750.
