Clyde W. Oyster, 76, formerly of Marietta, Ohio, died on September 8, 2016 in Mountain Brook, Alabama. He was born on April 29, 1940 to the late Harold William Oyster and Dorothy Bergen Oyster and was married to the late Ellen Takahashi of Berkeley, California for almost 33 years. He is survived by his sisters, Jerrie Berentz and Bonnie Miller, and her husband, Dick; his niece, Christy Berentz Holter and her husband, Ryan, all of Marietta; his sister in law, Joyce Takahashi, his niece, Kathryn Doi and his nephew, Doug Doi, all of California, as well as other family members, friends and colleagues who were special to him. Clyde graduated from Marietta High School. He attended Marietta College and received an O.D. degree from The Ohio State University School of Optometry. He earned a Ph. D in neuroscience from University of California, Berkeley, and completed post-doctoral work in Canberra, Australia and Rotterdam, Netherlands. Clyde and his wife were both professors at the University of Alabama, Birmingham. He wrote a textbook called The Human Eye that continues to be used in college courses. Clyde loved traveling with his wife, was an avid reader, loved to watch and study birds and was passionate about art. Upon retirement, he was a docent at the Birmingham Museum of Art.
