Cornelius Ignatius Mcglynn

Cornelius I. "Neil" McGlynn, 69, of Marietta, died Wednesday, August 22, 2012, at The Arbors of Marietta. He was born December 20, 1942 in Greenock, Scotland to William Ignatius and Annie Stevens McGlynn. Following high school Neil graduated from James Watt College in Greenock. He was a marine engineer and officer, serving aboard the Cunard Line R.M.S. Queen Elizabeth. He later worked at Union Carbide and Elkem, retiring from AMPOhio. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and the Ancient Order of Hibernians, where he had served as past president. Neil helped start the youth soccer program in Marietta in the early 1980s. He was an avid fan of the Glasgow Celtic Football Club and enjoyed following the Cincinnati Reds. Neil is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth Malone (Vince) of Pickerington, OH and Lucy McGlynn-Murray of LaGrange, IL, two sons, William McGlynn of Los Angeles, CA and Joe McGlynn of Marietta, and their mother, Katie McGlynn of Marietta, seven grandchildren, Grace, Tuck and Jamey Murray; Annabel, Jack and Griffin Malone; and Ella McGlynn; a sister, Winnie Cristofalo of Warrington, PA and two nieces, Carole Cristofalo of New York and Anne Rabadi of Pennsylvania. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral Liturgy, with Mass, will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 25, 2012, at St. Mary Catholic Church, with the Rev. Christopher Foxhaven as celebrant. Visitation will be at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m., where there will be a service at 7:00 p.m. by the Ancient Order of Hibernians. Contributions may be made to the Dominican Sisters of Peace, Mission Advancement Office, 2320 Airport Drive, Columbus, OH 43219-2098. Burial will be in New St. Mary's Cemetery in Marietta.
