Dale Edwin Hill

Dale Edwin Hill, age 96, of Marietta, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, February 24th, 2024. He was born on Monday, September 26th, 1927 in Marietta, Ohio to the late Earl Hilton Hill and Mary Eliza Reed Hill. Dale was preceded in death by his loving spouse, Mary La Rae Oden Hill.

Dale proudly served in the Air Force during World War II, where he worked on the B95 as a mechanic and was stationed in Roswell, New Mexico. He was also a dedicated salesman for Crescent & Sprague for over 45 years before retiring in 1987. He was known for his musical talents, playing in the band the Country Pickers where he played the guitar, sang, and even built his own dulcimer. Dale was introduced to the mountain dulcimer and hammer dulcimer in the late 1970s. This led to making the instruments and attending numerous festivals. He and Mary Rae played in the Williamstown Dulcimer Band in and around Marietta and Williamstown. Dale also enjoyed racing speed boats and had a great love for Bluegrass music. He and his wife attended the Williamstown United Methodist Church for numerous years.

He is survived by his niece, Alyce L. Stoops, nephew Joseph L. Stoops Jr. (Kathy), great nieces Jennifer and Julianne, as well as many great friends, including Larry and Pam Hopkins.

A funeral service will be held at the MARIETTA CHAPEL OF CAWLEY & PEOPLES FUNERAL HOME in Marietta, Ohio on Thursday, February 29th, 2024 at 1:00 pm with Robert Feathers, Minister, officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. The graveside service will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Williamstown, WV, where full military honors will be held.
