Daniel George Ullman, 84, of Marietta, passed away peacefully at Heartland of Marietta on Saturday, May 23, 2015. He was born April 8, 1931 in Lower Salem to Harry Edgar and Freda Payne Ullman. Dan was a 1949 graduate of Salem Liberty High School. He was a Korean War Army Veteran and was so proud to have served and of his Korean War Medals, especially the Korean Service Medal he received from the President of South Korea. Dan owned and operated Ullman's Body Shop for 26 years, retiring in 1994. Before that he had worked for Marietta Concrete Company, Dravo Corp, Pottmeyer's Body Shop and Stalnaker's Body Shop. He was a member and former Past Master of Masonic Lodge 308, Macksburg, Aladdin Temple Shrine, Scottish Rite, Moose Lodge 1823, Elks Lodge 477, was a life member of American Legion Post 64, VFW 5108 and DAV. Dan is survived by his two sisters, Mildred McCain (Donald) and Dorothy Wilkinson (Norman), all of Marietta, six nieces, Patty Sands (Jim) of Norwich, Barbara Holbert (Dale) of Parkersburg, Bonnie Schott (Frank) of Dexter City, Julie Russell (Jeremy) of Lexington, OH, Kimberlee Van Tassel (Zachary) of Columbus, Lucinda Smith (Jerard) of League City, TX, four nephews, Sidney Brackenridge (Lois) of Little Hocking, David Bowen (Joy) of Marietta, Douglas Bowen (Lisa) of Fairfax, VA, Mike Kirkbride (Becky) of Whipple and a number of great and great great nieces and nephews. Dan was loved by all his family and a best friend to me (Sue Rummer) for 16 years, and will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Arlene Stalnaker Ullman, on March 4, 1999, a brother, Wayne E. Ullman, three sisters, Caroline L. Brackenridge, Gladys I. Bowen and Gertrude L. Reed, brothers in law, Lloyd Reed, Corwin Bowen, Andrew Brackenridge, two nephews, one niece and one great niece. Funeral service will be held at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 27, 2015, with Roger Rush officiating. Entombment will follow in East Lawn Mausoleum. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., with Masonic services being held at 7 p.m. that night.
