David L. "Sam" Bowen

David "Sam" Leroy Bowen, 63 of Marietta, passed away Tuesday (Dec 31, 2024) at Marietta Memorial Hospital surrounded by loved ones. He was born on Nov. 5th, 1961, in Lima OH, to Cyrus and Juanita (Sarver) Bowen.

He was a 1980 graduate of Warren High School. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, son and friend. David was a member of the IUOE #18 and spent his lifetime working alongside his father at the family business, Cyrus L. Bowen Construction. He was a devout Catholic and a member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church in Churchtown. He enjoyed woodcarving, and his work was published on the cover of a woodcarving magazine in 2016. David also enjoyed hunting, gardening and especially loved cooking Sunday dinners for his family and friends.

David is survived by his beloved wife, Cindy (Sciance) Bowen, whom he married on Sept. 19th, 1997, and spent the last 27 years raising their six children: Casey Giffin (Jason) of Cutler, Cyrena Mace (Justin) of Marietta, Cayla Bowen (Zack Welch) of Belpre, Sammie Shriver (Derek) of Cutler, Corey Clatterbuck (Kristina) of Fleming, and David "Brock" Bowen (Courtney Way) of Fleming. His father, Cyrus, also survives.   He loved and was extremely proud of his grandchildren: Landon and Claire Giffin, Keaton and Kynzlie Mace, Braylon, Gannon, and Weston Welch, Maely, Sylvie, Tinley, and John Conrad Shriver, Jacobie Russell, Cayson and Moxen Clatterbuck, and Canyon and Colt Way. Additionally surviving are his sisters, Wanda McGee (Gary), Rhonda Thompson (Tom), and Tonya Loyer (Doug), and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Juanita; father and mother in law, Glen and Carol Sciance; granddaughter, Raylynn Clatterbuck; and great nephew, Kyle Gossett.

The family would like to thank Dr. Cawley, Alicia Mills, NP, and Amedisys Hospice. Also, a special thanks to Fr. David Huffman and Fr. David Gaydosik.

Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 6, 2025 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Churchtown, with the Rev. David Gaydosik celebrating. Visitation will be on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. with a Vigil service held at 4 p.m. at the MARIETTA CHAPEL OF CAWLEY & PEOPLES FUNERAL HOME.
