David George Darling, 65, of Marietta, Ohio, went to be with Jesus on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Gallipolis, Ohio, on May 18, 1959, to George and Esther Darling, David lived a life marked by strength, kindness, and an unwavering commitment to those he loved. He spent many years working as an engineer at Kraton Polymers and was a devoted fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes, NASCAR, and Formula 1 racing.
On August 28, 1982, he married the love of his life, Esta Bobbette Darling. Together, they shared 42 beautiful years of marriage and raised two daughters, Hannah Faith Darling and Danielle Grace Darling. David’s heart was full when, in October, he watched Danielle marry Evan, who chose to take on the Darling name, a gesture that meant the world to David. His proudest role was being “Papaw” to his grandson, Rory London Darling-Malcolm, who adored playing cars with him and sharing special moments.
David had a sharp wit and humor that could brighten any room. He expressed love through everyday gestures, early morning routines, thoughtful check-ins, and handwritten reminders, even in his final weeks. He was the kind of man who paid attention, remembered, and always gave his best no matter what.
He is survived by his wife, daughters, son-in-law Evan, and grandson Rory; his sister, Debby Darling; and his beloved aunt Sharon Eubanks (“Aunt Shu Shu”), along with many cherished in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, and countless friends who were like family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Esther Darling; his in-laws, Buddy and Phyllis Jayjohn; and his nephew, Adam Duncil.
David leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and devotion to family. While we are heartbroken, we find peace knowing he is now healed and whole in the presence of Jesus.
David’s life will be celebrated on Saturday, April 19th, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Levee House Bistro in Marietta, Ohio. In honor of David’s memory and the style he wore so well, guests are invited to wear Ohio State gear and/or their best denim, a fitting tribute to a man who was most comfortable in jeans and who rooted for his Buckeyes with all his heart.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes contributions to the Meal Train or shared memories in honor of David’s life.
CAWLEY & PEOPLES FUNERAL HOMES OF MARIETTA is honored to serve David's family and offers online condolences and many other resources on their website, www.CawleyandPeoples.com or by following their Facebook page.
