David Harold Davis, 66, of Marietta passed peacefully on June 24, 2017 from complications following surgery at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born February 15, 1951 in Morgantown, WV, to the late Harold and Thelma (Snodgrass) Davis.
Dave retired in June 2016 from Marietta City Schools, where he had served as the Transportation/Facilities/Safety Director for 32 years. Prior to that he had owned his own construction company and had been employed by Community Action as the Transportation Director. He graduated from Marietta High School in 1969 and attended WVUP. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #478, The Moose Lodge, and the Basilica of St. Mary of the Assumption.
Dave loved being involved in his community and was passionate about doing what was right for its children and youth. He served on numerous committees throughout his life and brought common sense solutions to problems. While he suffered from MS for 28 years, he never let that slow him down.
On June 22, 1974, he married Cindy Strahler, who survives with their son Tucker Davis and daughter-in-law Shayla of Davenport, Iowa; daughter Ricci Bailey and son-in-law Matt Bailey of Marietta, and granddaughter Leena Jo Davis. He is also survived by his sister Debbie (Davis) Hall of Hilton Head, SC, and brother Brien (Emily Jane) Davis of Hope, Maine. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Stacy Hall.
Dave will be sorely missed by those whose lives he touched, including his Deerwalk family and garage buddy. But most of all he will be missed by his loving family, his companion Scooter, and his numerous extended family members including 16 brother and sister-in-laws, 26 nieces and nephews, and 2 Godchildren. He was immensely proud of his children and loved becoming a grandpa just six months ago.
