David L. Erb, 81, of Lowell, Ohio, passed away peacefully at his home on December 1, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on April 26, 1937 in Marietta, Ohio to the late David and Ina Weinstock Erb.
Dave graduated from Marietta High School in 1955. He was a chemical operator at Dupont, retiring in 1996, and continued to enjoy farming up until his passing. Dave loved spending time with family, and would often say, "my cup has overflowed". He was a avid euchre player and enjoyed hosting euchre parties with family and friends on Sundays during the winter months. Dave also enjoyed his daily trip to the Pit Stop to pick up a coffee and newspaper for the Jumble.
He will be remembered and missed as a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Barbara Ruth Saling Erb, whom he married on April 30, 1960; children, Barb Poling (Keefe), Lisa Henderson (Paul), Jackie Gebhart (Ken), Matt Erb (Julie), Jeanie Lane (Chad), Melissa Tornes (Richard) and Troy Erb; 18 grandchildren, Micheal Cline, Dustin Tornes, Heather Casto, Derrick Tornes, Haley Tornes, Tanner Gebhart, Arielle Baker, Lydia Roberts, Madison Gebhart, Brandon Lane, Nycol Lane, Emily Schilling, Abbey Tornes, Benjamin Tornes, Megan Tornes, Chloe Tornes, Wyatt Erb and Clinton Erb; six great grandchildren, Jaelyn Tornes, Jaslynn Casto, Elle Casto, Cody Cline, Camden Cline and Caroline Tornes; siblings, Ruth Morris (Bradley), Bonnie Williams, Imogene Tidd, Hester McCain, Dale Erb (Paula), Ronald Erb (Yvonne) and John Erb (Barbara); sister in law, Beverly Erb; along with his innumerable extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Gary, Jim, Pearl, Herbert, William, Virgil, Mary Lou Erb, Carrie Hallett, and Jeanette Neville.
Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 5, 2018, at The Basilica of St. Mary of the Assumption, with The Rev. John Michael Campbell celebrating. Burial will follow in Salem Township Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. and all day Tuesday, where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. There will be a Vigil service held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
