David James Edward Smith, 65, of Chesterhill, died Friday, August 23, 2013, in Zanesville, Ohio. He was born in Morgan County on November 6, 1947, to Carrol and Pauline Hill Smith. David graduated from McKinley High School in Canton. He served his country in the United States Marines, and he had retired from Kraton (Shell Chemical). He liked to fish and spend time with his family, and enjoyed watching sports, especially The Ohio State Buckeyes. He is survived by two daughters, Stacy Norris (Howard) of Chesterhill, and Janice Myers (Rodney) of McConnelsville, five grandchildren, Tyler, Tyrese and David Norris, and Kylee and Jadyn Myers, five siblings, Lenora Frances Chandler of Zanesville, Charles Smith of Clayton, N.C., Roger Smith of Newton Falls, Ohio, Carlyn Smith of Mineral City, Ohio and John Kennard Ramsey of Canton, a special friend, Esther Lowdermilk of Canton, Ohio and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Patricia Jean Mayle Smith, whom he married on July 29, 1972, and three brothers, Duane, Phillip, and Stephen Smith. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at Mt. Hermon Church on St. Rt. 550, with Pastor Junior Walker officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Barlow Chapel of Cawley & Peoples and for one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.
