Delbert E. Lauer, 82, of Marietta, died Thursday, September 3, 2009, at Marietta Memorial Hospital. He was born April 1, 1927 in Stanleyville to John and Arleine Berg Lauer. Delbert was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a lifetime member of both the VFW Post 5108 and American Legion Post 64. He had retired from Union Carbide in 1986. He enjoyed spending time outdoors with family and friends fishing, hunting, camping and gardening. He enjoyed NASCAR and the Atlantic Braves. Delbert is survived by his four children, Ronald Lauer (Linda) of Marietta, Delbert Lauer, Jr. of Marietta, Jane Brewer (Richard) of Alexandria, VA and Barbara Ward (Randy) of Nashville, TN; three grandchildren, Melody Carpenter, Thomas Lauer and Briar Carpenter; two great grandsons, Calob and Clay Carpenter, and two sisters-in-law, Edith Lauer of Marietta and Grace Huck of Lowell. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Marie Huck Lauer on December 11, 2006 and by his brother, Norman Lauer. Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 7, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home. The Rev. Seth Wymer will be officiating. Friends may call on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Burial, with full military honors, will be at East Lawn Memorial Park.
