CUTLER - Delmar Franklin "Sonny" Place, 71, of Cutler, died Wednesday (Nov. 26, 2008) at Marietta Memorial Hospital. He was born June 12, 1937, in Little Hocking to Earl Franklin and Bernice Sealey Place. He had retired from Interlake Steel, as a crane operator, following 31 years of employment. He also had farmed in the Cutler area. He was a lifelong member of the Barlow Coonhunters Association. He also enjoyed horseback riding and playing cards. Sonny was a fun loving, free spirited individual, who made the best of every situation. He is survived by his mother, Bernice Sealey Place Pickering of Cutler; his wife, Edna Greenlees Place, whom he married on May 28, 1956; two daughters, Theresa "Tuss" Nice (Tom) of Cutler and Loretta Decker (Pat) of Waterford; a son, Sonny Place (special friend, Karen Hendrickson) of Cutler; three grandchildren, Shelly Nice Ruble (Brandon) of Cutler, and Caitlin and Colton Decker of Waterford; a half sister, Ullnee Whaley of Hagerstown, Md.; as well as several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his father; his stepfather, Frank Pickering; his grandson, Jeremy Lee Place; his in-laws, Chester and Juanita Greenlees; a half sister, Naoma Place Hearn; and three half brothers, Charles, Otis and Ray Place. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Sunday (Nov. 30, 2008) at the Barlow Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home, with the Rev. Delbert Bennett officiating. Burial will be in Layman Cemetery.
