Donald P. Fleming Jr., 82, died Sunday (Nov. 30, 2008) at his home from complications of Parkinson's disease. He was born March 13, 1926, in Parkersburg to Donald P. and Virginia Christmyer Fleming. He graduated from Parkersburg High School in January 1944; served in the Army Air Corps, 1944 to 1945; and then graduated from West Virginia University with a business administration degree and a master's degree in marketing. There he was a member of Delta Tau Delta Social Fraternity, Alpha Kappa Psi Commerce Fraternity and Phi Beta Kappa Scholastic Fraternity. He was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, where he served as Sunday school teacher, junior warden and vestryman. Don was one of the founders of the Junior Achievement Program for the Marietta-Parkersburg Area and was active in developmental real estate, having participated in the construction of two office buildings and two houses. He was a former member of the Chamber of Commerce and the Junior Chamber of Commerce. Don spent 50 years in the life insurance/financial planning field and served on the board of directors of the New England Mutual Life Insurance Company Leaders Association. He led the New England Mutual Life Insurance Company nationally in sales of securities for three years. He founded the Greater Marietta Association of Life Underwriters of which he remained an active member for some 50 years. He was a life member of the Million Dollar Round Table and an active participant in its activities over a 17 year period. Don was a former member and past president of the Marietta Noon Rotary Club. He is survived by his wife, Betty Johnson Fleming (they were married on Sept. 9, 1949); four daughters, Dana J. Strecker (Daniel), Brooke E. Tucker (Joseph) and Paige A. Fleming, all of Marietta, and Whitney J. Komjati (David) of Painesville; grandchildren, Brianne and Arielle Boyce, Callie Rose, Carson, Sean and Morgan Tucker, Jaymie and Benjamin Strecker, Donald Andrew Danford, and Tyler and Kasey Komjati, and a stepgranddaughter, Ashley Tucker. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday (Dec. 3, 2008) at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home, with the Rev. Richard Heller officiating. Burial will be in Parkersburg Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday.
