Donald D. Vannoy, 81, of Marietta died Monday, March 21, 2011, at Marietta Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family. He was born May 4, 1929 to the late Earl and Mary Barnes Vannoy. He worked at Christy's Farm prior to starting work at Marietta Concrete and retired from there in 1985. He enjoyed working in the garden with his many flowers and restoring his two antique tractors. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Charlotte Waterman, whom he married on November 4, 1949, four children: Donald Jr. (Linda) of Belleville IL; Rebecca (Melvin) Caldwell, Michael (Becky) and Kenneth (Lisa) all of Marietta, nine grandchildren: Donald Vannoy III, Lotina (Ron) Karcher and Lori Vannoy of Belleville IL; John Caldwell and Irene (Jacob) Ballengee of Parkersburg; Susanna Schwaigert (Greg Parsons), Christy (Gary) Bills, Bethany Vannoy and Seth Vannoy all of Marietta. He is also survived by ten great-grandchildren: Ellen Martin, Thaxton Vannoy, Alexander Martin, Dale Caldwell, Wylie Bills, Keegan Bills, Khloe Schwaigert, Jaden Caldwell, Brody Bills, and a great-grandson due May 17. Also by one step great-grandchild Brooke Kyle, a sister Madeline (Hubert) Coss, a brother Edward Vannoy, a sister-in-law Leona Vannoy and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents Donald was preceded in death by two sisters Geraldine Lones and Evaline Wheatly, a brother Freddie Vannoy, and a grandson. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 23, 2011, at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home, with Pastor Joel Vogel officiating. Friends may call on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and for one hour prior to his service on Wednesday. Burial will be at East Lawn Memorial Park.
