Dorothea Elizabeth Wynn Corner
Dorothy Corner, 90, passed away at her home on Monday, November 9, 2009, surrounded by her family. She was born March 21, 1919 in Marietta to Leonard and Mary Migley Wynn. She grew up in the Tunnel area, and graduated from Marietta High School in 1936. After graduation, she worked at Schramm's Bakery on Putnam Street. She married Melville P. Corner on September 4, 1940, and lived in the Devola area most of her married life, as well as after her husband's death in 1980. Dorothy worked in food service for 25 years for the Marietta City Schools, as well as nearly 20 years with Hellenic Caterers from which she retired. She was a member of Putnam Congregational Church for over 50 years, where she was very active. She volunteered and served on the Board of Franciscan Meals for over 20 years. Dorothy enjoyed quilting, cooking, baking and taking care of her yard and flowers. She also really liked to line dance. Traveling with her husband and family was something she held good memories of, and had visited all of the continental United States. Dorothy is survived by a son, Gary (Carol) Corner of Lancaster, and a daughter, Judith (Craig) Piersall of Devola. Her grandchildren are Wendy (Paul) McKissick of Sunbury, Kim (Peter) Mullikin of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Janna Staton of Columbus, Joshua (Hannah) Corner of Panama City, Florida, Gina Bentle of Lancaster, Ryan (Rochelle) Piersall of St. Augustine, Florida, and Drew Piersall (Maria Tasker) of Columbus. Her great grandchildren include Emily, Benjamin, Sean, and Simon Mullikin, Jonathan and Joseph Staton, Seth, Nathan, Elijah and Jared Corner and Josslyn and Nicholas Piersall. She is also survived by her brother, Norman Wynn of Marietta and sister,Wilma Riffle of Navarre. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, infant twins Kathryn and David Corner, sisters, Francis Wynn and Mary Ellis and brother, Joseph Wynn. Her memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 13, 2009, at Putnam Congregational Church, with Pastors David and Barbara Jackson officiating. The family will greet friends on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home. Online condolences may be sent to www.cawleyandpeoples.com
