Dorothy Diane Taylor White, Marietta, died peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on Friday, May 28, 2021. Diane was born on August 23, 1946 to Mary Elizabeth Smith Taylor and William T. Taylor in Niagara Falls, NY.
She was a 1964 graduate of Lewiston Porter High School and attended Niagara Community College. Following her family's move to Marietta during the Union Carbide migration of the 1960s, she enrolled in the X-ray technology program at Marietta Memorial Hospital. Upon graduation she was awarded a scholarship to the UCLA Medical Center School of Radiation Therapy, Los Angeles, where she studied under pioneering radiation oncologist Justin Stein, MD. After completion and following a post graduate year working at UCLA, she accepted a civilian position in the Radiation Therapy Department of Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Washington, DC. She later worked and taught in the Radiation Therapy Department of the University of North Carolina Medical Center, Chapel Hill, NC. During her professional career Diane worked as an X-ray technologist at St. Joseph's Hospital, Parkersburg, Gregory Krivchenia, MD, Marietta, SportsMed, Marietta, and as a radiation therapy technologist at the Strecker Cancer Center, Marietta and the Cambridge Cancer Center, Cambridge. Diane was a member of The Basilica of St. Mary of the Assumption and was active in community organizations including the Marietta Welfare League where she was cochair of the Marietta Bicentennial Ball and co-director of The League Shop at Marietta Memorial Hospital. She served as a member of the Marietta City Board of Health for over 30 years. She was an avid supporter of the Marietta Senior High School Wall of Sound, an active member of the Marietta Band Boosters and served as co-chair of the Band-O-Rama for 5 years.
On July 15, 1972 Diane married William B. White in a Nuptial Mass by Monsignor Robert H. Punke. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Jessica Anne White Tucker (Frank) of Marietta and son John David White of Columbus, grandchildren Madylin White, Max White and Maggie Mae Tucker; brothers Richard (Lou) Taylor (Linda) of Vienna; Robert Taylor (Lisa) of Kent and William Taylor of Marietta, and her brother-in-law Richard Strimel (Judy) of Marietta. Her nieces and nephews include Andrea Taylor Lazor, Christopher Taylor, Shawn Taylor, Joe Taylor, Brian Taylor, Erica Adkins, Carrie Langley, Stasi Utu, Catherine McClellan, Alexandra Buchholz and Daniel Strimel. She is also survived by special friends Jodie Plummer, Sharon Tiller, Nancy Hollister, Laurie Meagle, Courtney Knight, Lynne LaBarre and her beloved standard poodle Clancy.
Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at The Basilica of St. Mary of the Assumption, with The Rev. John Michael Campbell celebrating. She will be interred in Mound Cemetery following the Mass. Visitation will be at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home on Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. with a Vigil service at 3 p.m.
In accordance with her wishes contributions in Diane's memory may be made to the Gospel Mission Food Pantry or the St. Vincent DePaul Society of St. Mary Catholic Church.
