Earle John Anderson

April 28, 1931 — May 10, 2011

Earle "E.J." Anderson III, beloved son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather, passed away at the age of 80 on Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at Marietta Memorial Hospital. The oldest of three, E.J. was born on April 28, 1931 to the late Earle John Anderson II and Bettye Harrison Anderson.

E.J. spent his youth learning the oil business from his father and grandfather in Oklahoma and Texas. It was this love of the "family business" that drove him to move to Ohio during the oil boom in the 1970s. It is here where he met the undisputed love of his life, Karen Lee Riley. The two married on October 14, 1978 and happily raised their two children.

Preceded in death by his sister Bettye Anderson McGee and his loving wife Karen, E.J. is survived by his brother Ted Anderson, five children, and 11 grandchildren: Marian (Kevin) Morris and her children Erica, Andrea, and Kyle; Earle (Valerie) Anderson IV and his children Jared, Rachel, and Daniel; Gloria (John) Clark and her children Veronica, Erica, and Jessica; Seann (Carissa) Anderson and his children Wylie and Zane; and Donna Anderson.

Throughout his life, E.J. was known for many things: his quick smile; his endearing spirit; his love for his family; and his unwavering affection for all things Texas and classic cars. He was a dedicated and active volunteer for the Disabled American Veterans and a proud veteran of the Korean War.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, May 14 at 11:00 am at the First Congregational Church, 318 Front Street in Marietta, OH. The family will be available to greet friends in celebration of E.J.'s life one hour prior to the service. Military honors will immediately follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, http://www.dav.org/donate/MemorialHonoraryGifts.aspx
