Edith G. Lauer

Edith G. Lauer, 85, of Marietta, Ohio, died Tuesday, February 20, 2018, in Scott Depot, WV. She was born on April 30, 1932 in Waterford, Ohio, to William and Marcella Rauch Heiss.
Edith was a graduate of Waterford High School. She worked many years for Dr. L.M. Bell and retired from Dr. Wang's, where she was an office manager. Edith was a member of the Basilica of St. Mary of the Assumption in Marietta, most of her life, and Holy Trinity in Nitro, WV for last eight years. She was active in the CWC and enjoyed reading, bus trips and spending time with her grandchildren. Edith spent the last eight years of her life in the home of her daughter, Angie and husband, Ed, who lovingly cared for her along with their two daughters, Vanessa (Lance) and Victoria (Warren).
She is survived by four daughters, Diane Morgan (Daniel) of Youngstown, Ohio, Pamela Brockmeier (Todd) of Marietta, Angela Pugh (Edward) of Scott Depot, and Mary Beth "Betsy" Caldwell (David) of Mashpee, MA; son in law, Robert Derek, Jr. (Janice) of Ft. Wayne, IN; 12 grandchildren, Jennifer Henry (Adam), Christine Sanserino (Mike), Jonathan Morgan (Ronnie), Aaron Morgan (Rachael), Danielle Conaway (Kris), Nicole Hill (Steven), Eric Brockmeier (Sara), Evan Brockmeier (Alyson), Vanessa Ervin (Lance), Victoria Pugh (fianc, Warren Friend), and Dillon and Erica Caldwell; 24 great grandchildren; siblings, Kenneth Heiss (Sharon) of Marietta, Robert Heiss of Marietta, Joanne Hickman (John) of Pennsylvania, and Mary Campbell (Charles) of Waterford; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman G. Lauer, whom she married on September 13, 1954; daughter, Deborah Susan Derek; three brothers; and one sister.
Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 23, 2018 at the Basilica, with The Rev. John Michael Campbell celebrating. Burial will follow in New St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday, from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home, with a Vigil service held at 3:00 p.m.
