Edward Myron Scileppi

July 8, 1935 — March 9, 2013

Edward M. Scileppi M.D. died early Saturday morning the 9th of March after a prolonged illness. He was born in 1935 in Flushing New York and was the son of Dr. Myron and Genevieve Curran Scileppi. Edward was a proud graduate of Chaminade High School, received his undergraduate degree from Cornell University, and his medical degree from SUNY Downstate Medical School in Brooklyn. He completed an OBGYN residency at King's County and Bellevue Hospitals where he was the chief resident. Dr. Scileppi served as a Major in the U.S. Army Medical Corps and was stationed in Nuremberg Germany for three years. After his service in the Army, he began his career as a private practitioner in Springfield Vermont.

Dr. Scileppi moved to Marietta in the fall of 1973. He practiced at Marietta Memorial Hospital for 31 years and was responsible for the implementation of fetal heart monitoring, and the use of the latest laparoscopic and laser techniques. Beloved by his patients, during the span of his career he safely delivered over 8000 babies.

Aside from his busy career as a solo-practitioner, Ed enjoyed raising, training, and breeding Morgan horses. Throughout the years, his farm produced several national champions. He was also an avid hunter and enjoyed raising pheasants, quail, and hunting dogs. He loved gardening and caring for his orchard and vineyard. He was also a history buff and enjoyed traveling through unknown European destinations.

He is survived by Jill, his wife of 48 years, his two sons Bill and Dr. Bob
Scileppi, both of Columbus, Ohio, his daughter Donna and son-in-law Dr. Rick Ahmad, of Baton Rouge, La., and their three children, Collin, Jill, and Shannon Ahmad. Other surviving family members include his brothers Dr. Robert I. Scileppi, Thomas Scileppi, his sister Elizabeth Yanity, and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral mass will be held Wednesday March 13th at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Marietta at 2 p.m. There will be a reception immediately following in the church social hall. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Mary's Catholic School or St. Mary's Restoration Fund.
