Elizabeth Louise Hopper, 87, of Marietta, passed away, July 2, 2024. She was born October 23, 1936, in Marietta, OH. She was a daughter of the late John and Marie Lang Schilling of Lowell, and one of ten children. Betty was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, in Marietta.
She attended Lowell High School. Betty was recruited by the FBI and travelled with her sister Rose Mary, to Washington, DC, after graduation. She worked as a secretary in various agencies of the federal government, until retirement. Betty married and raised a family in Bethesda, MD. Once she and her husband, Hugh, retired, they moved back to her beloved hometown of Marietta.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Hugh Hopper; her son, Charles Huggins, Jr; three brothers, David, Howard and Charles Schilling; and one sister, Rose Mary Yost, of Alexandria, VA.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Huggins Flynn (Bob); step-daughter, Cheryl Hopper Wilson (Matthew); grandchildren, Cara Flynn Hjemvik (Brian), Robert Flynn III, Lane Flynn and Steven Flynn; great grand-daughter, Nora Hjemvik; step-grandsons, Gregory Wilson and Marshall Wilson (Emily); one brother, Edward Schilling, of Lowell; and four sisters, Louann Camden, Marie Scyphers, Joyce Chaney, all of Marietta, and Judith Balas, of Anchorage, Alaska.
Family will greet friends on July 12, 2024 at 5-7pm at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated at The Basilica of St. Mary of the Assumption on Saturday, July 13 at 10am. Graveside services will follow at Our Lady of Mercy Cemetery in Lowell.
