Emily Albertina Rohlfs, 91, a resident of Emeritus at Marietta, died Monday morning, December 26, 2011. Born February 12, 1920, in Yonkers, NY, she was a daughter of the late Emily Josephine (Lawrence) and Hermann H. Rohlfs. Following graduation from Ossining (NY) High School, she worked as an executive secretary for more than 40 years for Reader's Digest Magazine. She lived in Ossining, NY for many years, and retired to Heritage Hills, Somers, NY. She moved to Marietta, OH in 2008. Emily had been active in the churches to which she belonged. She traveled throughout the U.S., Canada and Europe. In retirement, she enjoyed making deserts for friends and participating in various church and craft activities. She will be remembered for her love of animals and her lemon bars! Emily is survived by her sister, Carolyn Janet O'Connell, a resident of Emeritus at Marietta, and her brother, Charles (Beverly) Gilbert, The Villages, FL. Also surviving are nieces and nephews, Jill (David) Torbett, Marietta, Kerry O'Connell, University Place, WA, Nancy (Wayne) Gilbert Woods, FL, David (Diane) Gilbert, GA,and Jeffrey (Kathleen) Gilbert, GA. Great nieces and nephews include Forrest Shoemaker, Nora and Thomas Torbett, Kelly, Keith and Kevin Gilbert, Kyle Gilbert, and Jessica, Curtis and John Woods. The family would like to thank the staff of Emeritus at Marietta, Marietta Home Health and Hospice and Comfort Keepers. A memorial service will be held 10:00 am Tuesday, December 27, 2011, at the Chapel at Emeritus of Marietta. The family suggests that memorials may be directed to First Presbyterian Church, Ossining, NY, or Katonah Presbyterian Church, Katonah, NY, or your local hospice organization or humane society. Arrangements are being handled through the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home.
