Franklin Delano Lee

Franklin Delano Lee, 79, of Marietta, died Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at his home. He was born March 9, 1933 in Harriettsville to Maurice Clyde and Georgia Battrell Lee. He was a 1955 graduate of the Ohio University School of Architecture. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, where he was triple rated as a pilot, navigator, and bombardier. Frank had been an architect for over 50 years. He started his career with Bob Scott and Will Eesley, and throughout his career he was associated with many local architects, most recently with David L. Haught. Frank really loved to work and just finished his final design project on Tuesday, May 8, 2012. His work included many significant local projects, such as the Washington County Courthouse annex, the enhancement of the Ohio River Levee at Front and Greene streets, the design of Selby General Hospital and numerous expansion projects at Marietta Memorial Hospital, the Wood County Airport, Jaycee Estates and many schools and churches throughout the area. He was a member of the Sandhill United Methodist Church, where he was currently serving as trustee. Frank is survived by his daughter, Sherry Lee McKenzie, and her children, Abigail M. McKenzie and Hannah B. McKenzie, all of Marietta, his son, Philip W. Lee, of Hilliard, and his children, Mallory K. Lee of Cape Cod, MA, Adam E. Lee and Erin E. Lee, both of Hilliard, a brother, Kent Lee and his wife, Ethel, and a sister, Nancy Brown, all of Lakeland, FL. He was preceded in death by his first wife and the mother of his children, Marilyn Lee Dodd, and on December 27, 2011, by his wife, Dolores Wharton Lee, whose survivors include her children, Lisa Butcher and Barry Goldenberg, and their families, who reside in Parkersburg, WV. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 12, 2012, at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home with Pastor Wendy Erb officiating. Friends may call on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A private family committal will be held at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Parkersburg. Donations may be made to the Sandhill UMC Building Fund, P.O.
