Fred Gene “Butch” Murphy, 87, of Vincent, Ohio, died on Wednesday, September 4, 2024. He was born on July 11, 1937 in Cleveland, Ohio, to the late Fred P. and Nellie C. Criss Murphy.
Fred was a 1956 graduate of Vincent High School. He worked for Dominion Gas as a gas measurement specialist, retiring in 1993 after 30 years of employment. Fred was a former member of Rockland United Methodist Church and attended Lighthouse Baptist Church in Vincent after moving to that area, and was a member to the Belpre Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed camping, bike riding, hunting, fishing and traveling with his wife. Fred especially loved spending time with his family, including watching The Ohio State and Cincinnati Bengals football games.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Dyar Murphy, whom he married on September 1, 1962; son, Tim Murphy; four grandchildren, Justin, Jeremy (Holly), Jacob and Jett; four great grandchildren, Kian, Cayden, Kyler and Rylee; siblings, Richard Murphy (Phyllis), Margie Greenlees and Patty LaFrance (Mark); and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Murphy; and siblings, Dolores Lemley, Terry Murphy and David Murphy.
Funeral services will be on Tuesday, September 10, 2024 at 1 p.m. at the BARLOW CHAPEL OF CAWLEY & PEOPLES FUNERAL HOMES. Visitation will be on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. and for one hour prior to services on Tuesday at the funeral home. Private burial will follow the service in Parkersburg Memorial Gardens.
