Gary Michael Pottmeyer, 70, of Lowell, Ohio, passed away in his beloved home on November 15, 2024. He was born on July 14, 1954, in Marietta, Ohio, to Ralph and Helen Pottmeyer.
Gary was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He graduated from Fort Frye High School in 1972, where he played football and earned an all southeastern Ohio award. Gary was best known for running the football the wrong way to score a safety for the opposing team. A feat which he never lived down but enjoyed reminiscing on throughout the years.
On February 01, 1975, he married the love of his life, Denise Ann Hooper. Together, they raised three wonderful children: Joby Pottmeyer, Josh Pottmeyer (with his wife Lilly), and Sarah Hunter (with her husband Eric). Gary was a proud grandfather to Alexa, Christian, Samantha and Jacson. Gary loved watching his grandchildren play sports, attending every game, and simply cherishing his time with them.
Gary spent his career working at Cytec (Solvay) Industries, where he made many lasting friendships. He had a passion for learning about world history and enjoyed the company of his beloved pets, including beagles, cocker spaniels, bulldogs, and cats. He was an avid fan of Clint Eastwood movies and enjoyed collecting guns and knives, making homemade sausage, hunting, gardening, and tinkering in his workshop.
Gary is survived by his loving wife, Denise, his children and grandchildren, and his siblings: Larry (and Linda), John (and Sharon), and Margie Chrisson. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers and sisters: Ralph Jr. (and Lucille), Bob (and Betty), Cecil (and Janet), Eugene, Anna Mae Strahler, Patricia Carr, and Joe (and Janice).
Gary's family and friends will remember him for his generosity, his love of family, and his sense of humor and orneriness. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
