Gatewood "Peg" Dorothy Tacy Carr-Godwin, 94, of Marietta, OH and formerly of Mill Creek, WV died Tuesday, March 14, 2017. She was born February 27, 1923 in Huttonsville, WV to Walter Clarence and Eulah Dorothy Simmons Tacy. Peg was a 1941 graduate of Tygarts Valley High School and attended business classes at Davis & Elkins College. She married Donard Carr on May 29, 1942 in Columbus, MS and they celebrated their 50th anniversary just before his death June 11, 1992. On February 11, 1995 Peg married Auville Godwin who preceded her in death January 5, 2002.
During WWII Peg was employed by Glenn L. Martin Aircraft as a riviter. She also worked for the Randolph County Board of Education as a teacher's aide and secretary to principals of Mill Creek, Homestead and Valley Head grade schools. She was also employed at Labcraft in Beverly, WV State Road Commission in Elkins, U.S. Post Office in Mill Creek, Space Conditioning in Harrisonburg, VA and Huttonsville Correctional Center where she retired as the payroll clerk in 1981.
Peg was a member of the Mill Creek Presbyterian Church for over 70 years where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday school, served as a Deacon, and was awarded a Women of the Church Lifetime Membership. Peg is survived by two sons, Stephen Carr (Mary Rachel) of Lowell, OH and Rodney Carr (Charolette) of Fleming , OH and two very special and faithful friends Barbara and Wendal Jack of Becky's Creek, WV. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Shawn Carr (Valerie) of Painsville, OH, Shelly Stormes (Steve) of Marietta, OH, Michelle Kopp (Jason) of Isanti, MN and Jennifer Floodstrom (Scott) of Nashville TN, eight great grandchildren, Sagelyn and Kortlyn Carr, Sean, Emmaline and Addison Stormes, Amanda and Rachel Kopp,and Eric Owen Floodstrom, a brother Frank Tacy (Gisela) of Williamstown, WV and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Billy Tacy, and her two husbands.
Funeral services will be held at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins, WV, 11:00 am Saturday, March 18, 2017, with the Rev. Basil Hensley officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6-8 Friday evening. Burial will be in the Brick Church Cemetery in Huttonsville, WV. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in Peg's memory to the Mill Creek Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 307, Mill Creek, WV 26280.
