Gladys Marie Malone

Gladys Marie Malone, 87, longtime resident of Williamstown, WV, passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 13, 2015, at Marietta Center after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's Disease. She was born February 16, 1928 in Churchtown to Howard Matthew and Ellen M. Schwendeman Jurden. On May 18, 1946, she married Jack J. Malone of Marietta, with whom she had six children. They resided in Williamstown, where they raised their family. She was a lifelong member of The Basilica of St. Mary of the Assumption and was an active member of the Catholic Women's Club. She also enjoyed golfing, bowling, gardening, and homemaking. She and Jack enjoyed traveling around the country in their RV, managing to visit 47 states. They also supported many charitable causes. She was a member of the W.I.B.C. and had participated in the Worthington Ladies Golf Association. Gladys is survived by her five daughters, Rebecca Shroyer (Doug) of Columbus, Roberta Mayer (John) of Hilliard, Jacqueline Ley (Mike) of Dover, Mariann McFarland (Bill) of Marietta and Diana Goddard (Ron) of Marietta; two sisters, Patty Dickson of Marietta and Priscilla Casto (Jack) of Cincinnati; eleven grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack J. Malone, on October 2, 2005, a son, Timothy, brother, Howard F. "Bud" Jurden, and three sisters, Leona Fleming Nahass, Barbara Baker, Mae Lang, a sister in law, Julia Malone and a step grandson, Scott Goddard . Funeral Liturgy, with Mass, will be held at the Basilica at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 19, 2015, with the Rev. Msgr. John Michael Campbell as celebrant. Friends may call at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. There will be a Vigil Service at 4:00 p.m. Donations may be made to St. Mary's School Foundation, 506 Fourth St., Marietta, OH 45750 or Alzheimer's Association, 1218 Market St., Parkersburg, WV 26101.
